I've searched, couldn't find any opinions (damned 3 character limit!)
So I've already got a MK III stainless bull barrel.
My question is this... is there any need to add a 22/45 to the herd?
With the strength of the Kanuckistan Ruble, they've dropped below the $300 price point... very tempting.
What are your thoughts/opinions?

Need vs want.... :D

I have a MkII blued 5.5" bull barrel.... love it... but nevertheless I still picked up a MkIII 22/45 4.5" slabside barrel. I like the grip angle of the 22/45 [being a 1911 fan... ;)].......................

I picked up a 2245 before Xmas and only got it a month ago, I like it because of the 1911 grip and controls, I yet to fire it but I realized that its a PITA to strip and put back together.

What made you choose the 4.5" barrel have over the 5.5"?
As I have yet to even hold one of these, I'm curious about all aspects of it.
I was leaning towards the 5.5", but all me .22 pistols have longer barrels.
Maybe it's time to try something different.
I guess I'm just wondering if there's enough difference between the two to warrant buying another Ruger pistol.
(There are soooo many things on the wish list :D)

Oh... an I'm not a 1911 fan (sacrilege? :p)

It was a comedy of errors.... I mailordered the MkIII 22/45 and thought I had ordered the 5.5" bull barrel one to match my MkII bull barrel. The next day I realized I had given the 'item number' for the 4.5" slabside barrel model by mistake. I called back to see if I could change it but they had already shipped it out... I decided to leave things as they were. Not disappointed........ Although, I would pick up a second MkII bull barrel if one came available on a deal, I'm that impressed with them... ;)

I bought a MKIII 22/45 4.5"bbl slabside via mail order.
The HG would get one or two FTE's every mag(10rnds) with Federal Bulk Ammo. The stovepiping was resolved once I installed a VQ extractor. Other than that it's an inexpensive .22 that's shoots well. My only complaint is the "skinny" grip. Field stripping and cleaning got easier after a few times.
I have since sold it and back to shooting my S&W 41.

X3 on the skinny grip....It's too bad Ruger can't make this pistol work with 1911 grips.
Adding a Hogue hand all sleave should help but it would be nice to use your favorite 1911 grips on the 22/45.

you got that right! when i bought mine the fellow handed me a bag o parts & said " a guy like you should be able to figure out how it goes together"!! well they are hard enough when u take them apart yourself but eventually i got it & its a great pistol, very accurate, i put a handall on it & i like it, i got a great price on it too ha ha
