If someone has an ID or badge that shows one of these then yes you are eligible for the discount. Any military ID or veteran card, badge or other form of proof. It will go on file and be applied to all future purchases. Not so sure about Ski Patrol or Saint John Ambulance, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thank you for the discount. It's nice to be recognized.

Not a fan of the first responders "title". The first responders are the people present when something happens. Everyone that shows up after is just reactionary. Maybe go back to emergency response personnel or civil assistance agent.

A first responder is a trained professional who is among the first to arrive at the scene of an emergency.

More crossing guards die on the job than cops, and for a lot less money. They are deserving of the discount.
Between 1993 and 2008, 120 crossing guards died on the job.

For the same years of 1993-2007 there have been 2,275 Police killed in the line of duty.

Where do you get your stats?

For the record I’ve been a crossing guard, and then a cop for 19 years and going.

I felt safer as a crossing guard. 😂

So, someone who shows up after something happened. Who are the people dealing with the emergency when it happens? You know, the people that are first to respond. You know, the people that are present when an event happens, and they respond to it. You might say those people are the first responders.... the people who come later are agents of the state.

How many of those cops were killed by their own driving, or other mistakes they made? Killed in the line of duty could mean that they fell asleep at the wheel and caused a single vehicle collision?

I trust the stats about cops killed on duty as much as I trust turdeau will tell us where he really gets his money.

Just had a little look at some numbers. From 63 to 2023 408 police officers were killed in Canada.

Their own driving is responsible for 151 of those deaths. Short note, 6 of the deaths were from shooting their partner.....

"First Responder" is an industry standard term.

Definition of the term varies, but MOST limit the First Responder category to professionals, which unfortunately does exclude volunteer organizations like St John Ambulance and Ski Patrol.

Here is one example definition from the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment

"Historically, first responders have included firefighters, paramedics, and police officers. Many people also consider other trained members of organizations that provide professional assistance during an emergency (e.g. military personnel and public safety communicators such as 911 dispatchers) to be first responders."

Two key words here are "professional" and also [their role] during an "emergency"; this excludes certain professionals as well, such as armed guards and security guards for example.

From Wikipedia: "A first responder is a person with specialized training who is among the first to arrive and provide assistance or incident resolution at the scene of an emergency."

A more general term for sure that could include volunteer groups.

Our owner has chosen to restrict the discount to those in the first definition.
