I know that asking opinions on things is like asking for a correct weather prediction... but here goes...

I'm looking for something that I can take on a hunt or to the range...
I have my brain fixated on the three that keep coming up:

- CZ 600 Alpha (I have to say that I keep coming back to this one as my 'top' choice... because... well... CZ)
- Ruger American Gen II Predator (just looks ###y... the pic rail is an added bonus, adjustable cheek, fluted and cerekoted barrel...)
- Savage 110 Hunter

If I were to go with a used rifle... obviously my choices will expand a bit... (like CVA Cascade... Bergara B14... whatever)

I'm trying to save some cash to add better optics which is why I've set a $1000 ceiling

Thanks in advance!

If you can score a Tikka T3 or T3X, I highly recommend. The lite version plastic stock isn’t great , especially on the T3 , but, it can be remedied. I put a Limbsaver on mine to cut down on some recoil.

I think CVA is a good choice as well. CVA and Bergara are owned by the same company, and I believe CVA gets their barrels from Bergara in Spain. Doesn’t the Cascade run sub $1000?

I really like the CZ 600 Alpha. It has 2 shortcomings in the stock. The sling swivels are the same plastic material. Also I've seen a few videos of people showing "flex" on the forearm section that can touch the barrel. If I were you, get a used rifle from the EE and look for a Remington. Why? When you drag this rifle through the bush it will be scratched and take damage over time.

I was in the market for a new .308 and I was torn between Ruger and Howa. I have the Howa in 7.62X39 and it's a track driver. I ended up with the Ruger American and I could not be happier. It's wonderfully accurate and with the muzzle brake, very easy on these old bones. The target is 1" squares and ignoring the flyer, I'm quite happy with the other 4. BTW, shot at 100m.

My first thought was a used Tikka T3 or T3x... best value around, in my opinion.

I had a lite in .308 once upon a time. Was great for hunting/carrying, was a bit much at the range.

If i was wanting a combo range/hunter right now, I'd get one with a varmint barrel and suck it up for hunting. I'd add a boyd's stock when I could afford it, and use the plastic stock for hunting. They're easy to swap.

Don't discount the Savage rifles, I've had a few over the years and they all shot tight groups
Also had a Mossberg patrol in 308 that was very accurate
I won’t deny they shoot well, it’s all the rest that sucks. The stocks, trigger, bolt lift etc are bottom tier. You get a better entry level rifle for a bit more money.
