10 22 bolt scraping next round

Hey all. My first post here I think.
I built a 10 22 on the sbi stuff.
Having lots of feeding issues with 3 different magazines.
But the thing that bothers me most is the deformation of both the brass and the lead of the upcoming round. Obviously the bolt is tearing it up. Did some googling but no joy yet.
Any thoughts ?
The bx1 mags work well if I force the mag into the well with my hand while shooting...they feed. But the next round gets torn!
Looking to hear from folks that can help.
Thanks

Can't really help , have you checked out the underside of your bolt ? Is it factory or after market ? Never had an issue with 3 builds or any of my factory 10/22 s & I've had many !

Hi,
If you don't push on mag, does it feed? And just to make sure I understand, when you push the mag, it feeds the top round, and damages next round?

If it doesn't feed at all if you don't push it, the mag is too low, or the bolt rides too high, or a bit of both.

And when you push it, since the first round feeds, and the next round is damaged, the pushing is bringing the mag too high.

I wish I could tell you the root cause. But I think that answers to Buck's questions will start to help you diagnose and hopefully fix the cause.

Cheers,

Ah! 357 - you gave me a thought - when you mentioned a spring...

It may be that how far up/down the rounds sit in relation to the bolt are a factor. Possibly, the mag spring is not pushing the rounds up high enough on their own. That could explain why rounds don't feed (if that is the case) if you don't push on the mag.

Maybe however all 3 Magazines. From experience I think it's how the Magazines are being held in the action, especially when it's all 3.

Could be stacking , when tolerances from the SBI Receiver , the Kidd Bolt and the trigger assembly are not compatible.

Is your receiver anodized? I had similar tolerance stacking issues with an AR cam pin not wanting the bolt to cycle well, polishing both surfaces helped drastically, the rest wore and self tolerance with the rifle running. Similar problem with a Tuff 22 receiver and my Kidd bolt, and same receiver and barrel. Bit of lapping paste, end of a broom handle and some elbow grease fixed both issues

So some info. Nothing is stock. BX trigger but kidd trigger kit. Everything else is SBI. Receiver and superlite chassis. Even the barrel.
I messed with the mags to try and reduce drag on the round. But I found that applying upward pressure on the bx-1 made them feed much better. But I'm getting that damaged round I believe when the bolt goes rearward after the bang. If that's the case it's hitting the round that's ready to load. So to me that means the round is sitting to high?
Really starting to regret this whole build...been nothing but frustration from day one.

The bolt seems to be moving very nice. Very slick. I'm using the kidd guide rod and standard spring from thier kit

What is stacking? I'm using the ST 22 receiver and have ordered the C71 they sell thinking that thier is a receiver issue

What brand of Trigger ? Test and change one thing at a time.
Remove your trigger assembly. Then remove the magazine latch plunger and spring . Stretch the spring slightly, reassemble and test. Sometimes the latch plunger is not consistently retaining the magazine
I consider buying after market spring and plunger

It does feed without pushing. However the problems with failing to feed and failing to fire go up drastically...

Is the receiver OEM? Have you contacted Kidd ? If you have to 'push up' on the mag, that indicates a problem right there. Is the stock OEM ? What else is 'after-market ?
Nothing is really stock. Bx trigger has trigger kit from kidd.
Put way to much money into this. I got carried away and it's so much worse now cause it don't even function as well as 400 $ stock unit

Sorry about frustration on this. Mags seem to be one of the biggest issues. I've been lucky with my Dlask Kidd builds. Check out this video and have a look. Do internet search, lots of info out there as well with mag fixes. Maybe get this moved over to rimfire forum, might have more ideas there for fix as well.
