44 Rem Mag prices since last year

I remember when I bought my Henry 44 lever last year and had to start dumping money into ammo, I did a double take at some of the prices per box of 50. Now I was coming from shooting PCC where 9mm is fairly affordable (relatively speaking) at $22 a box or whatever it was. I picked up my Magtech 44 Rem Mag JSP rounds - box of 50 was around $47.00.

I was at two local gun stores yesterday and today picking up new guns when I decided to peruse the ammo section. I almost fell over in disbelief.

I saw boxes of target rounds of Winchester white box 44 Magnum JSP rounds (50 per box) going for $92.00 a box + tax. And that's at Tenda. And that's Winchester white box, hardly high end ammo.

Going online at some of the gun stores across Canada, a box of 50 rounds of Winchester white box was going for anywhere between $105 to $120. A google search or going through arsenalforce can reveal this.

Did I miss something between last year and this year with the 44 Rem Mag arounds? Seems like 9mm ammo and 38 special and such have kept fairly steady. And the 40S&W which no one buys is still the same price as last year. Anyone know why such a precipitous increase in 44 Mag when all other pistol calibers have more or less held steady?
 
You must have gotten in on a great sale with 50 at $47 last year!
Prices have been gradually going up over the past five years.
Reloading is the only way to affordably shoot .44 rem mag, especially if you load to .44 Russian specs as I have to.
 
Last year tenda had a great sale on .44 that i missed by a day? All vendors need to seek out these brands ( Brazil for Magtech ) and order A lot.
 
I will admit I'm getting to the point of buying guns in calibers that I can find Campro bullets for. CVA Scout in 44 Rem Mag, LeverTAC in 357 and 45 Colt, 308 Win, 223 Troy PAR/MRA Renegade/SCSA Taipan X etc.

Campro has allowed me to shoot a heck of a lot more rifles than I used to... and even handguns. I used to use DRG lead bullets but I read they are out of business so Campro to the rescue for my 9mm, 7.62x25, 10mm, 45acp and 45 colt.

Time to learn to reload.

I proudly got my N frame and immediately started loading 44mag (maybe even before I did). Factory ammo wasn’t a consideration for me at all buck a round.
 
137$ for 500 campro 240gr bullets. That’s cheap to reload… brass last way over 10 reloads even at max pressure.

Ok , what is the cost of a round when you make it yourself not including brass? Also where is the best place to get components. Projectile looks like around $.30 per. Wondering what primer you use and powder type/ cost per round or per 50 rounds. I have the reloading gear already but havent started to reload. I understand that the other benefit to reloading besides savings is the enjoyment and also being able to tailor your loads to personal preference. I would initially be doing .44 and .357 magnum. 44mag-1lbs of 2400 is around 70$ ishh primers 15$/100
7000gr/22gr=310 reloads+45$ in primers + 90$ ishh in bullets

70+45+90=205$ ishh for 300 rounds approximately so around 1.5$ per round

If you shoot blue dot you gonna reload more cuz it’s only 15gr per round. As for primers I use federal #155 LMPP

You pay too much. Few site sponsors have them for around $90/500. Buy 3 bags and get a free shipping $250+. But my price is normally around $80/500, since I always wait for periodic sale to get another 10-15% discount. Same goes for powder. H110 is currently on sale for $60/lb, but I got a big stash last Christmas for $42/lb. Along with Campro LPP primers for $90/1000. Basically everything I buy was on sale and free ship. Just keep 1-2 year supply on hands and calmly wait until something comes on sale. Normally I shop around Black Friday-Christmas to replenish for next year or two.

So my current math is:
bullet: 16c
powder 1lb=7000gr. Charge per round 23.5gr. 7000/23.5=298 rounds per 1lb. $42/298=14c per round.
primer 9c
brass: free (range pickup and friend's donations)
Total: 39c before tax

Pet loads with Titegroup ~30c. Cheaper than 9mm.

I think even at current regular prices you should not go beyond 60c/round.

Basically, all calibers I reload cost me less than 50% of the factory ammo, sometimes as low as 20% for some odd calibers. Except for SKS ammo, for which I just buy surplus.
 
If you buy hornady or sierra bullets ya the costs are gonna be a buck a round plus to reload but if you use the cheap cam pro bullets your in the 50 cent mark
Cast bullets should be a bit less yet if you buy a pile of them in bulk
Like was said already you can stretch the powder consumption by using bulkier powders like blue dot and unique but the problem is finding those powders

If you have a ruger 44 mag carbine, the gas port will get blocked before 20 cast bullets go down the pipe. First hand experience.

You did your division backwards. $205/300 rounds is $0.68/1 round.
