March 4th Tariffs and Commerce Department Freeze

So no delay Tariffs start tomorrow on Canadian goods to the US .
Won't affect us till the Liberal retaliatory tariffs on US goods coming to Canada take effect .
Will be interesting to see how many business jack the price on stuff even before Canadian tariffs take effect .
We can't speak for other businesses, of course, but we are not putting prices up until 'new ' inventory comes in at the higher prices. We have no intention of bring more inventory from the USA for quite a while

New round of tariffs, so, new thread. This thread is only for information pertaining to firearms and realted products and how these issues will affect availbilty and prices. While political disscussion is important, it will not be in this thread. Such posts will be deleted.

We have spent the last few weeks filling our warehouse with as much product as possible , especially those products likely to be affected by the 25% tariffs. We also have significant loads coming now from Weatherby, Berger (Capstone), Vista, Big Horn Armories, Marlin as well as other smaller mixed loads. Our warehouse is really full and we have all these loads to fit in somehow. :(

To make this even more frustrating, the Commerce department has frozen all new permit applications, meaning any permits we have exhausted, we cananot currently get new ones to get product coming pre tariff.

This will affect all dealers, even those who buy indirectly, of course. Speaking with our broker, the expectation is that USA made products will have a 25% tariff on or shortly after March 4th. They do not expect it to affect products coming from the USA but made elsewhere.

Will the guns and ammo in country already be subject to tarriffs?

That's not how tarrifs work. Anything in transit should he exempt even if it arrives after tonight at midnight.

Any retailer charging more when they had stock is ripping you off. I do expect some stores to raise prices immediately, but that's poor taste.

That bit about businesses raising prices wasn't meant to include you .
You are one of the reputable dealers and have gone the extra mile in every interaction I've had with you in the past ! 👍

Ok I can stagger my ammo purchases then. I shoot about 4K of 17 hmr and hornet a summer on gophers. Was hoping not to have to make the walk into the doghouse tonight

In retail, prices should really be based off replacement, not off what was paid for the current inventory. It makes little sense to sell something for 100.00, then pay 125.00 to replace it, no matter what the original cost.
Also, some smaller retailers won't have the inventory and will have to replace items quickly and some distributors will quickly move to add the repoalcement cost to the new selling price. Smaller dealers buy almost exclusively with these Canadain distributors.
Having said that, our plan was and is, to stuff our warehouse with as much as we can and not repace inventory for quite some time (at least anything affected by tariffs)

Warren Buffet - says that tariffs are an act of war
Why? If our dollar goes to $0.50us Canadian exporters could easily destroy American companies competing against us in their own country. Is that fair?

Warren Buffet doesnt care about countries, just another globalist piece of crap

Interesting .
So does the same thing apply when the cost of an item goes down ;)

That is exactly why retailers need to mark things up when replacement goes up; Its impossible to recover your investmentss when prices go down. Customers will just purchase elsewhere. So, retailers can't take a beating on the way up and the way down.
Imagine if we do eventually bring millions back in with the 25% tariff and then a few days later the tariffs dissapear- other retailers who buy then will be abl to sell for 25% less leaving us with over priced inventory.

Buckle up folks. The counter tarrifs are extensive... food alcohol building products tobacco spoerting good ++++..hate them but only way to fight back. Take tarrifs off other countries and diversify trade. Tired of this clown to the south flying by the seat of his pants. Love Doug Fords response.

I disagree with raising prices based on future replacement cost. As new stock comes in yes. Most sales software averages the cost of goods.
When new stock comes in you increase the sales price. Yes, the dealer can increase their margin short term at the expense of the customer but most customers would frown at the gouging.
