I've received a WWII GI Colt that has already been refinished, it's blued on the slide, parked on the frame, slide lettering polished away, the refinish is worn away in places, etc. Basically, it's ready for a refinish.

I've wanted an Armacoat project for a while, but need some inspiration. So, please post your painted 1911s! :)

Thanks in advance,
DT

Norc-in-Stein

I picked this up off the EE awhile back...

Norc 1911A-1 frame, WWII Colt USGI slide, Wilson combat sites, Springfield Armoury factory barrel, misc small parts. Frame and slide are finished in a desert brown. I added the Pachmayr grips and the Mec-gar 8 shot mag with angled bumper........

Just a photochop here... Someone suggested an Avro Arrow commemorative paintjob on a 1911 so I came up with this:

Not paint but....

Not paint jobs but here's a couple of before & after comparisons of what can be done with old 1911's where the finish has been 'neglected' by previous owners.....

Example #1

Before: [Finish damage due to storage in damp leather holster]

After: [Bead blast & reblue to simulate WWII parkerize finish]

Example #2

Before: [General finish neglect; slide markings had been previously removed]

After: [Slide flats polished & blued; rest bead blast & blued]

My Norinco got splashed with Duracoat this past winter. HK Black for the slide and Stainless Steel for the frame.

If you decide to go the Duracoat route, call them and have them send you a catalogue so you can see the colours accurately. The computer screen doesn't give a good representation of the real colour.

I just ordered some Duracoat last week and from order to getting my hands on it took three days. These are the people -www.lauerweaponry.com/. They're the manufacturers.

My RIA was DuraCoated by mike Adams Customs prior to my purchase on GunsAmerica. The only thing I have done to this pistol is change the factory sights to King-Tappan sights. Regards, Richard:D

Yeah, actually it was only $300 + shipping. It just needed grips [Pachs I picked up at a gunshow for $2] and a magazine [8 shot Mec-gar with angle bumper, I got off the EE for $20]. So, I'm into this 1911 for under $350 total............

Everyonce in awhile you score one.... I've missed three nice WWII vintage Colt 1911A-1's on the EE in succession lately, though.....

Cmon page load, Sent PM cmon ugggh. PM sent YAY, Wait, Sorry its sold.....NoooooOO..

I would seriously consider bead blast, Radocy Phosphate (parkerize) and then armacoat/duracoat. The park makes a fantastic primer base for the paint to adhere to. The Radocy product is also quite affordable and durable. My 2 cents anyways.
