I was getting jittery about when I may ever get that Savage 12FV in .308 I've been wanting. I decided to call Russell's and see if they had a 10FP (they do) and then I said that what I was really after a 12FV and he said they just got some in. I said what?, he said just got a shipment from Savage finally, first ones to get one.

I went down after work and got a 12FV .308, with Bushnell 10X 40mm scope.

VERY HAPPY!! My first quality rifle, I look forward to getting it to the range and finally getting into long range shooting. :sniper:

The Lakefield plant only make rimfire rifle for Savage and repair service in Canada. Savage has been very very good to Canadian customers.

I got a Savage model 11 FCNS in .308 last September... If you love yours as much as I love mine, you're in for MANY happy hours shooting your new baby.

Congrats. That's a SWEET rifle. The one thing you may want to invest in now, is an aftermarket recoil pad! Those synthetic stocks don't hold the thing back one bit from kicking hard!

I almost bought that EXACT rifle from the local sporting goods store up here. It feels VERY nice to hold doesn't it. I ended up buying a .30-06 instead, but also from Savage, with the same synthetic stock.

A kicker eh...

Jeeze now you guys (here and on the other thread) have me wondering how hard she'll kick. I've been shooting my .303 LE this week and was thinking this .308 would be easier on the shoulder. Truth be told I havn't fired a .308 in a long time and it was a guess. Perhaps the wood stock on the LE takes something off the shot? Putting the 180gr .303 bullet beside the 168gr .308 makes the .308 look much more... civilized  but I could be wrong there too. :sniper:

It's more of a surprise than anything... It does give a good solid thump into the shoulder, due to being so light is all.

My BIL has a Tikka T3 in .270 WSM... Now THAT sob leaves bruises!

I was talking with Jim Baker of Savage Shooters who has contact with Savage Arms rep Brian Herrick and was told that the export permit papers have been filed again and they're just waiting for the U.S. gov't for the go ahead to start sending the new rifles again, shouldn't take to much longer.

Well Russell's sounded like they had a gotten a decent size shipment from Savage so I would say it's started.

Nice rifle and scope. I have a similar gun in 300WM. Check carefully to make sure the barrel is floating above the stock and not contacting it at any point. I had problems with my synthetic stock and ended up swapping to a laminate. You can easily sand out the barrel groove if necessary, but just thought I'd point out that you should check this before sighting it in.
