I would have flashed it, then walked out.I had a place ask me for my PAL to buy a scope

I get the logic but do you think they actually call the RCMP to verify your pal to put the purchase through?? I highly doubt the RCMP would be thrilled to know theyre doing credit card fraud prevention on a firearms site. On the other hand the RCMP is pretty much useless anymore even when you do the legwork for them. Friends have been frauded and even with the culprits address and Drivers license provided they dont even investigate the fraud thats well over twenty K with the few members on here involved. Times are sure changing, not for the betterThat's actually becoming common with a few dealers, not because it's a PAL item, but because apparently higher end optics are a common fraud purchase with stolen credit cards for whatever reason and the stores are trying to get more information to verify if the customer is legit/protect themselves from charge backs. (Not saying I agree or disagree with the practice)
PAL doesn't stop people from being criminals and being dishonest..The scopes are the most popular merchandise in credit card fraud targeting gun stores.
On the other hand, PAL is a certificate of good citizens.
drivers licenses can be used for credit application purposes, and people should cover related information to prevent it being used to steal identities.PAL doesn't stop people from being criminals and being dishonest..
The PAL for scopes was someone great idea, and made a bunch of made up rules. Like I said. Wonder how many people gave out more info then needed because a stupid form, and lack of 2 lines. Then look at all these data breeches on gun sites.
Stop making people send photo of PAL and other info. That easily can be stolen.

In Ontario, in a vast majority of cases, the last 6 digits of the DL number are the birthdate of the person and it starts with their last initial. This is two parts of the way to validate the card, but the middle digits are what is important for stealing credit information. I always cover the middle digits and one other spot so if i had to send it to anyone for any purpose I am a bit more secure that way.
Logic is one thing, statistics are another.PAL doesn't stop people from being criminals and being dishonest..

But opens up to other potential fraud.Logic is one thing, statistics are another.
PAL can eliminate 99.99% of credit card fraud. It is reasonable if the damage of fraud is far greater than the loss caused by the customers' dissatisfaction. Most of time, it is just a sad choice of small business who cannot afford high-techy anti-fraud solutions.
Ok so I guess I have to be very specific with my wording. Theyre still using the RCMP to verify your Pal or Rpal which is not what the ONLINE PORTAL is for. I highly doubt anyone from the RCMP will do anything,THAT WOULD REQUIRE SOME EFFORT.No.
Because they don't need to call anyone to verify your PAL. There is an online portal for businesses which only requires the PAL# and your birthdate.
In a different thread on this topic someone pointed out that it is almost certainly against the terms of use for the site, but until someone from the RCMP side of things does something about it I don't see dealers stopping what they're doing.
You can find that information at the top of the page, directly above the thread title and below the message that reads "Please take a look at the "quick guide to forum uses"..."Which members forum is this?
Back in the day, a 1/2 century ago, our SN was our SIN. Want to talk about OPSEC?There really needs to be a much more secure system. I mean the military anything with our service number was protected A. But gun stores ask for so much personal info.
It’s not a requirement. I just leave it blank and it goes through fine.Where does it say on the books that I must be a registered gun club member to own a rimfire? Where on the RCMP portal do you enter my birthplace?
