I never really thought about glocks until recently because I was a die hard 1911 fan, but recently I have considered one mainly due to the amount of parts available for them, and that means I can tweak and customize all I want.

Being the cheap Scotchman that I am I have been looking at used, and see that Epps has 2nd gen 17's and 22's for $499. I had them email pictures of a couple and they look decent but I really have no clue what to look for in these.

Has anyone near Epps them checked them out ? is 499 a decent deal for a used 2nd gen glock with 2 mags ?

Pssst. This is your conscious talking...buy a Glock.

Thanks for the replies, I am starting to get the feeling that 500 + Used 2nd gen Glock = Bad. What I know about Glocks can be summed up in one word, NADA! So I figured I would ask :)

I wasn't planning on grabbing the first one I saw and I will keep my eyes open for deals, but considering Wolverine lists them for 596.00 new it really makes more sense to go that way.

Parts Galore!

You cannot go wrong with Glocks.
Bought my G17 last year. Why fire a 1000 rounds to break in the factory trigger when you can replace it with a 3.5 pound connector from the good people at Lone Wolf Distributing.
Dropped one of their very nice conventional lands & grooves barrel in it this year so I could fire lead.
Ask me about the new LWD/G34 new top end....

I'm feeling that too vehenem. I'm an avid and loyal 45 ACP 1911 shooter feeling the pinch of bullet prices. The Glock 17 is a no brainer. I'm thinking of migrating to that system one day.

The only thing stopping me is the grip angle. If Glock would only come out with a 1911 grip angle model, I would have bought one a long time ago.

I know, there is the SA XD-9 but it does not have the same accessibility of parts and mags like the Glock.

Glocks are great guns, lots of fun to shoot, lots of mods out for them, and if you stick with the 9mm, pretty much will go for ever.
And up here, with no ccw, I'd rather have a range toy that is cheap to feed, than worry about 'stopping power'.
That paper target is gonna stop just as fast with a 9mm as with a 45. :D

After shooting almost 2500rds in 4 days at Blackwater with a G17 last year, I bought an OD one from Mark at Questar. And I added a G26 from the EE to go with it.
This year I'm going to try and complete the 9mm set and get a G19 form Mark, and a G34 from where ever I can find one.

My advice is to stop contemplating and go get one as fast as you can!!

Well there is an option to the grip angle by getting one of these http://www.ccfraceframes.com/advantage.php

Brownells list them in their new catalog for $349.95 and then $12.95 for the 1911 grip insert.

S&W M&P has the same grip angle as the 1911.There are also metal "racegun" lowers in the US for the Glock that have a 1911 grip

I'm sure G17's would be cheaper.

I was a loyal 1911 shooter but the cost of factory 45acp convinced me to switch to factory 9mm. You can't go wrong with a G17 as a 9mm platform.

Its not really that ammo that concerns me, reloads are cheap enough, I am just looking for something different, in 20 years of shooting, I have stuck with 1911's, with the odd Smith and Ruger mixed in.

I figured it was time to expand my knowledge and try something different without going broke in the process.
