Wondering if anyone has experience with the TTSX in the 308 win. I was thinking of trying them in place of the 165 partitions I typically use. I thought of going with 130gr or 150gr TTSX but saw some data that the 168gr TTSX is designed to open up at a lower velocity? Wondering if anyone has any real world experience with this, would be used mostly for moose and elk but the occasional whitetail as well.

30 cal Barnes minimum FPS for expansion, according to Barnes :

.308
150TTSX – 1800 FPS
165TTSX - 1800 FPS
168TTSX - 1500 FPS
175LRX – 1600 FPS
180TTSX - 1500 FPS
190LRX - 1500 FPS
200 LRX – 1600 FPS
208 LRX - 1700 fps
212 LRX Bore Rider - 1600 fps

what's your normally shooting distance? hard to beat a NP bullet wise unless you want over 400-500 yards. Ive killed many animals with that bullet.

With a .308 the best TTSX bullets in my opinion are the 130 and 150. I would advise going no greater in weight than the 150. That's for anything- deer, moose etc. 130 TTSX will expand fine and then penetrate more than a 165 NP but less shrapnel so possibly less dramatic kills but less meat loss due to lead. If you are looking for shooting 400+ yards you probably want a different bullet.

Where did you get this info from?

I have been shooting nothing but Barnes in my 308 for maybe 15 years.

In virtually all my 308’s, the 130 and 168gr pills are the ticket.

I have shot 40 plus animals with one of those in my 308 and i can tell you from my experience, BARNES grossly mischaracterizes “expansion”.

I have taken to believing that those numbers represent the point where SOME expansion occurs. Meaning a tiny petaling of the tip. My safe operating number is 2200fps and I wont engage animals betond that distance.

That means i have my 130 grains cranked up to 3000+.

I still have over 100 factory 168’s so after 50 seasons of a bear and a moose each, i may start loading those too.

I wont rely on expansion past 250-300 with those tho. They come out of my barrel at about 2750 and are just over 2200 at 300.

Perfect for my needs.

All that said, i am exploring fragmenting monos from Hammer, Cutting edge, etc to change the game cuz i also like shooting my 6.5 Grendel.

Anyway.
Just my experience.

I'm running a 130gr TTSX in my 16" barrelled Sig Cross. Spent a bit of time doing load development, and landed on a nice spicy load. 49.7gr of Varget with a COL of 2.840". It's compressed but not to the point of being crunchy. Getting 3010fps out of a 16" barrel.

3 round group from a cold bore at 100 yards.

5 round group at 200 yards and I didn't take a ton of time setting up for these shots.

In the 308 I started with W748 but ended up with near max (Barnes data) Ramshot Tac for 3100fps out of a 20” barrel. I keep the 168Tsx for my 30-06 where I can get higher velocities than the 308 with 168s as these do need good speed to expand.

I also shoot a lot of the TSX in my 243. Those are 3100 in an 18” barrel.

I have 115gr tac-tx and 127 LRX loads in development for my Grendel but both are greased lightning in my 6.5 creedmoor already.
