handgun saves hunters lives

I've seen that before, but it still amazes me how fast grizzlies can be. It makes me wish I could carry my Redhawk while I'm in bear country.
 
What a great piece of video!

The bear's reaction to the gunfire is interesting. I've chased off dozens and dozens of polar bears, and I have come to the conclusion that they seldom react to live fire. When they do react, they move off grudgingly. Ricochets make them move, but at the risk of a wounded bear. Cracker shells get them moving, but live fire doesn't impress them much.

I think the bear in the video was so close that she found the sound of the muzzle blast very painful, and that discomfort combined with being startled is what turned her. I've seen a young polar bear approach the shooter when a .44 revolver was fired over his head, but he ran off a bit when a can of tattoo die was thrown at him.
 
Sent the video link to both Barnes and Bentley using the delivery and reading confirmation option. Asked for their comments and a reply to my earlier letter supporting the issuance of ATC for hunting purposes.
 
We don't know what skill level the guide had, but the fact that he reacted as quickly as he did leads me to believe that he had seen a dangerous bear once before and could resolve an emergency in a cool manner.
 
I'd say the guy had his wits about him & was instantly wary the second he saw the cubs. Where there are cubs, there tends to be the momma.

I don't think the guy could have possibly done any better. The bear ran off, no one was hurt & HOPEFULLY the bear will remember the big scary boat & avoid people. It's win win across the board from what I saw.

It's also a VERY good example of the benefit of carrying in the woods. Whether it ever becomes OK to hunt with a pistol, it SHOULD be a tool that's available to those who go in the woods, for when a rifle isn't readily available, or the people are just out in the bush enjoying the wilderness. AKA even if it's JUST for protection, it's worth having.

Though it'd also be way kewl to have handgun hunting become legal too.

hmmm, i seem to remember watching that episode awhile ago and for some reason I remember a different camera angle. Everyone in the room agreed that it wasn't a shot in the water. Maybe some editing to satisfy the anti's?

There are not many persons who are capable of bringing something like this to a successful conclusion. I for one would have no problem trusting this IDIOT as a guide. His actions were almost instinctive, giving me the impression that he has been in this situation once or twice before. You can bet his customers were more than happy with his idiotic actions.
 
Ever try to shoot in a boat pitching and rolling? I'm certain he missed by accident but it had little to do with operator error.

If that bear didn't turn, I'm certain it was close enough to finish them even with a solid hit to the vitals.

There was a little movement perhaps, but not enough to be categorised as "pitching and rolling". And, no, I never have tried to shoot under those conditions but as close as 'things' appeared to have been, I'm sure I could've hit her. "Close enough to finish them even with a solid hit to the vitals", perhaps, but that's a lot of assuming.
 
There is no way he shot into the water on purpose. He was just pulling the trigger as soon as he got the gun up and on target.

If a bear was coming at me like that, I would have been lucky to get a shot anywhere close. I bet it would be the same for most of us.

Man, what a video.

Well, the video shows him coming around a bend and then BAM! BEARS.

So what makes him an idiot? He saved his own ass, along with those accompanying him.

I'd be forever grateful to this man for saving my life.
