Just tried the mp9 recently. Actually really like it. A LOT!

Question though...so let me get this straight.
(a) If you load one in the pipe, release the slide and pop in a magazine, the only "safety" left is your finger right?
(b) If you pop in a magazine and release the slide, same thing, the only safety is your finger right?

With this in mind, if carrying one concealed you would either leave it uncocked without a round in the pipe and have to #### it quickly if SHT fan OR if you did leave it cocked in the holster you would have to be REALLY careful not to snag the trigger right (being the the trigger is the only real "safety" left) ?

...do I have this figured out. I only had use of it for a short while.

Thanks fella's

Sounds right, funny thing is that people who find the "condition one" 1911 (hammer back, chambered round, thumb safety on, grip safety on) to be too risky have no problems with an M&P or Glock. I don't have a problem with either :D. The "safety" is the bit between the ears.

Interesting. You're right...what do they think about No safety. Sure was nice to shoot though.

Another question: For an IPSC competition, starting from a holster would you have to manually #### it? or could you start with it cocked in the holster?...therefore, the only thing you would do is draw and squeeze trigger. (aim I guess to!)

It has a safety...just internal along the lines of Glock striker fired concept.

For IPSC, it can be shot in production division in the same vein that a Glock, XD, etc. can be used.
You can start in the holster with one round in the chamber per the stage brief. First round is considered 'double action'.

Great pistol, I bought one then traded it. Now I'm working on getting another - just a blast to shoot and once you get the hang of the trigger Very fast.

Hey Mackattack

I got an M7P 9 a little while back, and I love the thing too! It's a pretty accurate pistol for it's purpose and looks cool too!

I was asking a cop about being on the job with those types of pistols (without safety) and he said they are "cocked, locked and ready to rock". No time to mess with a safety or having to #### it if things go pear shaped. The gun has the internal safety, and a split trigger to avoid those "snag on the clothing" discharges. Pretty cool!

with all the newer holsters trending towards complete trigger covering .. I dont see a problem with trigger snags..

but then again, I am new to pistols!

The biggest issue lately has been with some of the Serpa holsters. The "high sided" models could snag the trigger under some circumstances, for the most part as long as you're aware of what you're doing when you're doing it, it shouldn't affect a sport shooter. If I was in law enforcement it might be different as they often have to re-holster under stress. The Glock system has shown itself capable of negligent discharge when holstering it and taking it down if the individual is distracted (ie.you have to pull the trigger to strip the pistol). That's why the M&P has that little lever for takedown.

I remember reading a few threads about that little take down lever, and how the pistol got a -1 because you have to use a tool to take it down. The more I think about it though, the safer it is because for just that momoent, you have you divert your full attention to flippin the lever (with keys usually) .. which will force you to observe the feed path/chamber.

I think its almost a +1 compared to the glocks pulling of the trigger for takedown.

The safety of a revolver, M&P, Glock, or any "Slick Slide" auto is primarily KEEP YOUR DAD-BLAMMED FINGER THE HECK AWAY FROM THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU'RE ON TARGET AND HAVE ALREADY MADE THE DECISION TO FIRE! which is now that you mention it, exactly the same as for any other firearm.

When in doubt: Finger to frame!

Nope, that little lever is an annoying and unnecessary pain in the ass.

"While pointing the pistol in a safe direction, remove the magazine, pull back the slide, visually verify an empty chamber, release the slide, and pull the trigger on an empty chamber."

That has to be done whether there is a lawyer-lever or not. I don't need a black pinkie to protect me from my own stupidity.

I think people don't like the little lever just because it something they have never had to do with other pistols. The M&P is my first pistol so it was just part of the learning process to use the lever to deactivate the sear. I don't know any other way so its no big deal to me. Some may call it a PITA but I find it to be easy to do and takes little time. You can use something other than the supplied "tool" to throw the lever like your fingertip or a cleaning rod etc. Just my opinion.:)

I just got one and love it- smooth trigger, nice sights, very low recoil and muzzle climb for me at least in 9mm. The only annoying part is some (most?) of the 9mm M&Ps have a mag safety. Good except for IPSC where they're a PITA since to drop the hammer at the end of a course of fire you have to insert an empty mag. I'm looking for a dummy mag or a someone less klutzy who can whittle me one.

If you've got loooong fingers you can trip it with your free hand, just slide your finger straight up the inside of the back of the magwell. A stick might work better though, say 1/2 inch x 4.

You can have the mag safety parts removed, or you can order the gun with no mag safety from the factory.
