Let's see your Dangerous Game Rifles.

Is your 500J a Sako 85? Ever found factory ammo in stock for it?

Such a cool cartridge.
I could only dream of owning a Sako 85. It's built on a P14. A P14 is by far the easiest action to build a big bore on. They can handle 60k psi and a 94mm round without even touching the lower locking lug area. And that lower area has lots to if you needed too.

I had initially been interested in a Sako 85 Kodiak with the plan of heading to parts of Africa but I came across the longer barrelled Bavarian with iron sights. Honestly did not need a 375 for the hunts I wanted but I thought it would be a bit nostalgic to carry a rig chambered for such a classic cartridge. Amazing accuracy but the recoil in the Bavarian stock was brutal. That walnut was incredibly light and the hog's back profile did not suit the rifle. Dropped the barrelled action into a laminate stock with a Limbsaver Grind-to-Fit pad and the recoil disappeared. Added a Swarovski Habicht 3-10X42 with a #4 reticle. This even shoots well off a bipod. Great rifle, carried it on a few bear hunts here in Canada, but as much as I love it, now it just sits in the back of the safe.

I've been without for a while. I've owned a .458 Win, a .416 Rem Mag, two .375 H&H Mags, and a 9.3x62mm. Biggest I have today is a .35 Whelen, which is no slouch with 250gr at 2600fps+, but it's not quite dangerous game-level.

I still have the dies and loaded ammo for the 9.3, so I've been looking at something "practical", like a Sauer 100 or Tikka T3X in 9.3x62, something I could bang around and not feel too bad about. Ended up finding a stainless X-Bolt in .375 H&H late last week, it should be in the mail today. More rifle than I was planning on but oh well, it'll be fun!

Already stocked up on everything I need (brass, bullets, bases, rings, even a cheap scope for now) but forgot the dies so I need to order those up.

What that really means is that I still need a 9.3x62mm at some point so these loaded rounds and does don't go to waste!

Here's mine.
Merkel .450-400 3" ( shot a Cape buffalo with it last week in Mozambique)
Winchester M70 Alaskan .375 H&H
Sako M85 SS/Lam .375 H&H
Verney-Carron Impact Plus Takedown 9.3x62 ( was my backup DG and plains game rifle in Mozambique)
Sauer 202 9.3x62
Yes I do consider the 9.3 to be a dangerous game capable cartridge. And the Mozambique government and PH's agree.

Those are some nice looking rifles and congrats on the recent hunt!

Here she is, all seven pounds of her! I'm glad the new Browning recoil pads are soft, because she kicks pretty hard at that weight! I got a dozen rounds off the bench before form suffered. Also, I suck at open sights so she definitely needs a scope.

The first handload of 270gr Speer bullets over CFE223 measure 2736fps average. Should be a good all-around load once I test it in hunting weather conditions.

Like it but it must hurt sighting in in the bench.

I bet she’s lively at 7.0lbs! A scope would make a noticeable difference there.

I feel like 9.0lbs is a good weight for a 375.
