7.62mm DCRA LE No4 conversion thread

They were intended to be used with NATO ball.
Something to duplicate the velocity level using 150 or 155gr match bullets?
NATO cartridge nominally had a 147gr bullet at 2800fps.
Varget, 4064, 4895 etc. should all work.
Might be an idea to start a bit low, then work up if appropriate.
7.62x51 or .308 brass is going to make a difference.
Remember that the No. 4 action is springy; flexes when fired. Using NATO brass might not be a bad idea. Military brass is thicker than .308, with a smaller volume. NATO ammunition is about the limit of what a No. 4 can handle.

I have a TR made up on an action converted for a one piece stock (Robertson) with S&L barrel. Canjar trigger. Probably set up by Jim Duggan.
I have fired it with a standard .308 competition load - 46gr Varget, 155 Sierra, in commercial brass - without incident. I do not recommend this load, I suspect it is more than a No.4 should be expected to handle. If I wanted to use the rifle regularly, I would go with the stronger issue brass, and back off the charge at least 10% or more.

I use 44.5 grains of W748 over CCI 250 mag primers with 168 grain Hornady HPBT Match in both of my 7.62x51 No 4 rifles.

It's supposed pressures run around 48,000 CUP which is very close to Nato specs.

Both rifles will shoot this load better than my eyes can hold the sights.

Recently picked up #548 on a 1950 Long Branch Reciever.

Neat thread! Just found this thread, although I haven't read most of the posts yet. Didn't know they converted Lee Enfields to 308. Often thought that if somebody started doing that then many of these old guns could have new life breathed into them again with 303 becoming hard to find and too expensive to shoot. Too bad the conversion would cost more than the gun was worth but look at how much money people blow on tricking out their sks's...

Hey everyone, just picked up #458 1944 Long Branch, single shot, PH-5C sight, no 5G or C oval stamp, but it has an ENGLAND stamp on the reciever and an L19 below the LB Serial number, and im not sure what those meanIMG_4618.jpegIMG_4626.pngIMG_4619.jpeg

I have this Very unusual DCRA 7.62 conversion, built on a 1943 long branch.DCRA number 1038 on barrel, no other numbers on bolt or receiver, dated 1968 on butt with a serial number 1184 matching number on mag, mag has also been modified to feed 7.62. The action is fully bedded, with matching grain maple wood, all metal parts has been finished in a gray/green parkerized coating, front sling swivel has been modified to have sling attach to side of rifle. Parker hale 5c sight, tunnel front sight. Previous owner said he bought it from an armourer who worked out of the Montreal depot in the 1960,s. He said he built 12 for the military biatholon team?? this one is number 9. Any body have any info on it or seen another one?
