Ruger 10/22 ammo Horrible

I have always had good luck with the winchester bulk pack ammo runs awsome in all my .22 rifles and pistols with very good accuracy when lebarons went out of bussiness a few years ago back i bought like 20 cases of the stuff for like pennies on the dollar

That's a shame you got those numbers for the CCI-SV, I found it's a good 'cheap ammo' in my Savage B22-FV. The "Speed" on the box is just the 'Average' thru a 'test barrel' XX-years ago; been printed there for Years. I chrono-tested several brands thru the B-22 back in 2022 - 2-pages of results below - but the CCI-SV and the CCI-MM had the BEST ES of speeds. Now, granted that the Sav B-22-FV is a much better rifle and a bolt-action as well, the results were quite consistent with both ammo types. And the CCI-SV did well at 100-yds that month, too.
PS - I never had good luck with Win in the Red Sleeves, tho some people do. I found it very dirty with residue thru out the barrel.

My first 10/22 CSC didn’t like cci either. Not as bad as yours but not tight groups. It ended up doing well with bulk Remington thunderbolt which has never shot good in any other rifles I’ve used!

I ended up selling that rifle to find another project and years later bought another 10/22 CSC and it seems to shoot most things well fed automatch and cci sv shoot about the same for bulk ammo! If I’m trying to get more accuracy out of it I found that Eley force does pretty good! I haven’t tried much else of the expensive stuff because I use it for plinking not accuracy.

that's a weird result in my own experience.
I shoot CCI SV exclusively in all my 10/22's and not only is it pretty accurate, it simply doesn't have failures.
I'm talking about 10's of 1000's of rounds.
I think you got a bad box but it's hard to imagine how a box could be that bad.

Did you clean the rifle before you started with the CCI?
One thing I have noticed, especially in my higher end 22's is that it takes 10-20 rounds of any new ammo when I switch from one to another for the barrel to "foul in" to the particular lubricant on the ammo.

An oily barrel from the factory with left over machining bits will likely need some time to shoot well unless it's cleaned.
80 rounds is a lot tho.

were you using a rest?
Bipod?
Anything change besides ammo?

Unusual, but you got a bad batch of CCI Standard Velocity. I had the same happen to me with SK Rifle Match, way low velocity and bad grouping. Doesn't happen often, just get another box and try it again.

I went to the range to site in my new ruger 10/22
The ammo- Winchester 36g value pack, Federal auto match, and CCI standard velocity.
started with the CCI- at 50 yards I was getting a 7inch spread ???
I went through 80 rounds trying to site the rifle in.
I finally gave up and was wondering what the heck is going on.......Could the ammo be that BAD ??
I grabbed the Federal Target and was really surprised,...I now had pretty good groups.

Then I switched to the Winchester, YA, very good groups and a harder HIT.
who would of thought that the 333 bulk box Winchester would be the best.

I did a chronograph on the CCI ammo- It was HORRIBLE !! it says on the box 1070 FPS
Here is what I got- 930, 871, 763, 911 ,701, and as low as 686 this CRAP is all over the place !!
The ammo is also dirty looking. ....and I bought 2 boxes of the JUNK. A few rounds didnt cycle the ruger.

The fact that you state the ammo was dirty just shows it was old stock that might even be badly stored. New rounds are shiny..really shiny. If the brass is dull..right there is a sign it is not newly manufactured.

Sounds like you got got Friday afternoon at 5pm ammo... wonder if someone swapped out the CCI for something else, seems crazy?

On the plus side, if you are shooting that winchester decently your rifle is good and that ammo is cheap.

I guess it just goes to show that rifles like particular ammo, maybe? I think that once you find a particular brand/weight that works well in a specific rifle, just stick to it, I guess.
I know when I had a Ruger 10/22, I only ever used CCI Stingers. Never had a problem, no matter how infrequent my cleaning was.
Of course, that was a couple decades ago, so quality control may have suffered since then.

Every rifle likes something different. The 10/22's i had both seemed to really like the Auto Match for cheap bulk ammo. I never did play with higher end ammo with those.
For field and small rodents, I liked the MiniMags. They were explosive on the little gophers

Sounds like how Remington Thunderduds were back in the day. Shot string sounded like

Pick, pack, pack, pock, puck, pick, poke, click, jam, pock.
Back in the day? Well let me assure you the legacy is still alive and well lol. That being said I find it very clean and reliable overall, aside from those that don't have enough powder to cycle the action haha. Groups terrible in everything but goes bang every time for me. Perfect for steel plinking.

As for the OP, new 10/22s smooth up nicely after a quick break in. Give it a cleaning and fresh oil, it might surprise you how smooth the new actions are. Both my recent purchases cycle and shoot Federal GMM standard velocity great. It will probably do better with the CCI SV next time out reliability wise.
