About whatever that you might want? I have a Stiga brand 30-06 - was made on a Swede m94/m96/m38 length action. The original serial number and inspector initials on the action suggest it might have originally been an m94 carbine at one time. The magazine was lengthened. Metal behind the lower locking lug was milled out and a new loading ramp was cut - to allow the longer cartridge to feed. Then the thing was "proof tested" in Denmark (I think?) to establish that what was left was strong enough for commercial 30-06 rounds. What are my options for an intermediate length M98 action?
Easy to find brass and reload, however not as common as 9.3 x 62 when it comes to data or factory ammo.9.3x57
That's what I did, with a M98 commercial action. Light, handy rifle which kicks like a SOB, but accurate. 3 shots touching at 100 is common using PPU bullets. I like it, and it was a lot cheaper than building.Just buy a Husqvarna 9.3x57
I think of the 9.3x57 as the Euro version of the 358Winchester.Easy to find brass and reload, however not as common as 9.3 x 62 when it comes to data or factory ammo.
Good advice imo.Intersurplus, a banner advertiser has 9.3x62 barrels, new in the white, for $170 Canadian. Made by Zastava for sporter versions of the rifle you have.
The 9.3x62 option would be best for the intermediate action IMHO, because that's what it was designed for.
I've used these barrels for builds and they were basically just take off the old barrel and check headspace on the new one before spinning it on.
I've never had to rechamber one. That doesn't mean it can't happen though.
Intersurplus also has or had dies, cases available.
Comparable data for both is a bit hard to find, but it seem one should be able to expect a couple hundred FPS more from most loads in the 9.3 x 57. Both are brush busters.I think of the 9.3x57 as the Euro version of the 358Winchester.
Just out of curiosity. Does it load extract and eject reliably? How does it shoot at a 100 yard? Was considering buying one of those. What are my options for an intermediate length M98 action?
My 500 Jeffery has an 18.5" barrel. I have never chronographed it but it hits real real hardI'd like to also add, I want to chamber it in a cartridge that also performs well in an 18.5" barrel. It needs to be short and handy.
When you say easy to find brass do you mean easy to make it? Haha I have not seen factory 9.3x57 in 3 years other than the norma cases I have and I refuse to use themEasy to find brass and reload, however not as common as 9.3 x 62 when it comes to data or factory ammo.
