TNA VR-66 Good choice for a budget semi?

Damn! Nice collection. Never knew wood furniture was a thing for that model. Where did you get it?
Those are just the favourites šŸ˜‰

Tenda had them for under $700 with a decent hard case.

The other nice thing about it is that it came stock with the 5+1 mag tube, whereas my actual Benelli M4, in the same pic, only comes with a 4+1 mag tube.

I’ve been shooting a VR-66 for a while now in 2Gun/3Gun events and it has been a very enjoyable shotgun to run. It has no problems with light target loads, cycles it well. Very accurate with buckshot and slugs, although it’s light and does kick a bit. I run a cheap Amazon slip on recoil pad on it and it works well. It is light, fast and accurate, super happy with it for the money. I also run a magazine extension, and it will ghost load.
I run a red dot on it simply because I’m not a fan of ghost ring sights personally, way too used to a bead sight on a shotgun lol. It’s been a good shotgun for me, I have no problem recommending them šŸ‘

Great to hear! Really appreciate the feedback.

I have several tactical semi's including the 1301, 930 SPX, Rev R4 and the VR66. The 930 being the heaviest with the lowest recoil and the 66 being the opposite. The 66 is a solid option for the price and is compatible with most Benelli M2 aftermarket parts, TNA also has a good selection of parts for the 66. Mine has been very reliable but I do perfer a gun that is a little heavier. Get the "enhanced version" with the loading port cut and the go fast parts if you choos to get one. Between that an the various M4geries out there, I think the VR66 has better build quality, fit and finish. I am not a fan of pistol grip stocks on shot guns so I swapped my R4s telescoping stock for one of the wood setups and it is quite nice and fun to shoot.

Here's a pic of a few of them having a smoke in the locker room.

You guys are killing me with these semi's lol Great collection here too. (y) My Stoeger coach and Remington 870 Tac are not cutting it. Thanks for the info on the VR-66. I am not seeing an "enhanced" version on the website so probably sold out?

Looks like the one they have on the website is the "enhanced" version. It features the Loading port cut out, the enlagred bolt release, charging handel and the nickle plated bolt. The original one did not include those features.

I never thought of this before, but mine is the full zoot taccy version with the ghost ring sights, 18.6" barrel, +2 mag extension and all the upgrades/improvements mentioned by pirate604. I am also not a fan of pistol grips on shotguns, so I agree with pirate604 on that as well.

So just an update on my VR-66. I’m probably in the range of 3k rounds downrange with it at this point and I really have no complaints . June 7th was National Range Day and I had volunteered to help run the Trap Field at our local range in Agassiz BC. It was a free event, all ammo supplied, BBQ, archery etc.
On the way out the door I had 3 shotguns ready to lend out to new shooters that day when I decided last second to throw the VR-66 in the truck just for something different.
It turned out to be an incredibly popular choice from the gun rack that day, with the tactical look and red dot. Even after explaining that it wasn’t ā€œ idealā€ for Trap, many people wanted to try it. I would estimate 500-600 rounds went thru it in 30 degree C weather with very few breaks in its use. There were a few times the barrel was DAMN hot, and I gave it a break a few times to cool down but that VR ran like a champ for 6 hours without a ftf, fte, or any problems whatsoever. Very impressed, and there were two new shooters who were smashing clays with it repeatedly. I must say I’m enjoying this firearm a lot šŸ‘

Thoughts on the recoil of the 1301 vs the VR66?

I tried a VR66 and found the recoil to be pretty stout. It wasn't much different than my 870.
I don’t know about pirate604, but personally I find my buddy’s 1301 WAY softer shooting than the VR-66. I find the VR to be really light, which translates to way more felt recoil to me. I run a slip on recoil pad on mine and it helps a lot imho

The 1301 has noticeably less recoil than the VR66. If I was going out to shoot a flat of ammo, would be the 1301. If carrying around the farm or banging around in a truck, VR66. If bought on a sale, the VR66 is a great deal, either the tricked out model or the standard. Can also get a sweet 18.5" vent rib barrel for it, almost perfect length IMO.
