Cooey 64 history ?

My 64 is exactly the same with white spacer sling swivels checkering with rabbit and the deluxe model but, no pistol grip cap. I was hoping to see one them without pistol grip cap. Mine is definitely original.
I think that the grip cap and eventually the rabbit were removed sometimes after 68.
My friend has one, probably from the 70s, serial number CA095XX...............it has neither the grip cap nor the rabbit.

Forgot to thank you okcorral1881 for those photos. My deluxe 64 is either 1964 or 1965 because it has the original plastic magazine, which Cooey changed in 1966/1967 from what I read. I guess they’re not gonna stop production because they ran out of grip caps so maybe there was a small time frame they weren’t available and production went forward without them on the deluxe.
Also, Cooey’s quality control was never the best. I have a model 84 with reversed stamping on the sides of the receiver which left the factory along with many others who have one as well and is being discussed in another thread with Scott Jamieson who will be authoring a Cooey book in the future.
If anyone sees a deluxe 64 with plastic magazine but “no grip cap”, please post. Thanks.

My father had a 64 with the metal clip. I can’t remember why but he put a plastic conversion in the firearm. This was back in the early 80’s. it would be interesting to find that firearm one day.

Someone should light a fire under Scott's butt... just say'n... :ROFLMAO:
He's been kinda at a stand still for awhile now.

That's the time period when thousands were converted over to metal magazines...

Cooeys at gun shows are worth a fortune now compared to what they used to sell for. One model I very rarely see at shows is the 750 deluxe single shot, only seen one in my life.

Metal magazines for the Model 64 first came out in 1976. They were superior to the plastic ones.
I read on this forum in another thread the model 64 was revamped around 1967-68 and changed plastic mags to metal and the reason they changed was the metal lips in the plastic housing would come loose. 🤷🏻
