Well, if you want the details, here is the nitty gritty:
I was browsing the internet looking for walnut stocks for my rifle, not complete custom jobs, but ones that are 98% finished and inletted, and then I can do the finish work myself and all that. The only two I could find who weren't crazy expensive and also were able to ship to Canada were Richard's, and Great American Gunstock Company (GAGC)
So I browsed gagc's website, and found that they had a pre-made stock for my FN mauser rifle, inletted properly and everything, and in fairly decent wood as well. So I put in an order, gave them my credit card info, and emailed it all out.
I waited a few days, no response. I waited another day, and still no response. Then I started to get ansy, thinking maybe this was fraudulant or something, so I emailed back to ask if they got my order. Two days later I get an email back saying "Yes, we got your email". That was it. So, frustrated, I emailed back asking them the status of my order. A WEEK later I get an email back saying that they can't find that particular stock, and to order something else.
So I check out their site again, and can't really find anything, so I email GAGC describing the rifle I am building, and what action the stock needs to fit, etc etc. I get an email back saying to call them, because they have some questions for me. So I call, and the long and short of that conversation was that I should pick a stock from their Mauser MK X stock, as they will fit the Pac Nor barrel contour better.
So I return to the sight, and find a very nice stock for a Mauser MK X, semi-fancy grade wood and ebony foretip. I get the details together, again send my credit card info, and again, didn't get anything back. I had to email once again to get an order confirmation, and again, that took 3ish days to be sent. No shipping details or shipping numbers were sent.
Literally 8 weeks go by, and finally I receieve a box. It looks like Canada post has gone through it, as it was opened and then sealed again; I assume this was done because it was a package that had the word "Gun" on it. Anyways, I get it home, and pull it out, and I am holding literally a piece of #### in my hands. The thing is inletted wrong, the lug holes don't match up, my floorplate won't fit it, it's basically the complete wrong stock. It doesn't have an ebony foretip, and isn't any sort of "fancy grade" wood at all. Like I said, it was an expensive piece of firewood. So I check the order form, and sure enough, all the details are correct for what I ordered, except for price. My order was for a stock that was at around $350ish; I was sent a $89 something-or-other.
So I email GAGC, saying that I have a problem, that my order was screwed up and I was either sent the wrong stock, or something was messed up back at the shop or whatever. I get an email back 4 days later saying "Call us". So I call, no answer. Call, no answer, so I leave a message. Call again later, no answer, leave message. This goes on for a week. Finally I said "screw this noise" and walked away from the mess, very unimpressed with the company.
So that was my experience with the Great American Gunstock Company. This was just my experience with them, maybe others have had better luck, but I certainly will NEVER do business with these guys, and would caution others at doing so as well. Cheers -Cameron
