does anyone know where to get those fancy black-and-white drawings that are occastionally posted on the site here that show all the dimensions of a particular caliber? I'm trying to figure out if the neck on a 375H&H will match with the neck on a 375/338, (and thusly be able to use a 375 necksizing die) but I cant seem to track down the case specs for either.

Thanks very much -Cameron

the owner posts here I believe.

375/338WM isn't posted though.

As far as a neck die, a 375 H&H neck sizing die won't work, even if you cut the it shorter. A regular 375 Ruger FL die would work to neck size a 375/338 but you may have to cut it a bit shorter as well. Come to think of it, you should bypass the 375/338 and just make a 375 Ruger

haha I think I will have to pass on the 375 ruger, as I already have the pre-chambered and threaded barrel, reloading dies, new stock, basically everything I need to put together the 375/338. Just waiting on Canada Post to get them here.

Plus, everyone knows wildcats are cooler. Cheers -Cameron

I think you are referring to a reamer print and if so I doubt you will find them anymore. clymertool.com used to have them available for all to see but not anymore. The reamer will be made within specs and not to a exact spec so they are almost always unique.

The H&H has a 15` shoulder and is narrow at the shoulder while the .338 has a 25` shoulder and is considerably larger. I doubt the 375/338 would go in your H&H die much more than 3/4 way if that much even if its a neck die.

Cheers

It's not quite a kewl as a 375Ruger, but it prolly won't bounce off a bear or moose either. :p

It is a very fine cartridge! I had Bevan King build one for me in the early 80s and used it on a lot of big game. Never had an animal leave me behind.

It easily duplicates the 375 H&H, and does so out of a 20" barrel. Try 65 gr of 4064 with a 270 Hornady to start.

Hey Paul, along with everyone else who is following the progress of this old girl.

Nothing really exciting as far as updates go. Had a few set-backs actually haha.

First, I went back to college, and ran out of money while there. So the project got put on hold while I said "bugger this" and went back to working as a tradesman. I'm pretty happy with the change actually, and couldn't imagine why the hell I thought sitting in an office, talking 9 hours a day to people about their "feelings" was a good career path. Psychology.... What was I thinking....

Anyways, enough of that. On to the important stuff.

I had previously ordered both a stock and a barrel for the project. As most of you know, the barrel from Pac Nor came in no problem. They are great to deal with, excellent service and communication, and I really can't say enough about them.

The stock on the other hand was a complete different story. I put in an order for a stock from Great American Gunstock Company. I won't get into the details, but two months later I got a nice piece of firewood back from them. I was shipped the wrong order, the inletting was wrong, the wood grain wrong, not even the lug holes matched up. And on top of that they wouldn't exchange it. So that certainly left a bad taste in my mouth after having had such slick service from Pac Nor. But oh well, such is life I guess. And again, that is just my experience, maybe someone else has had better luck. I don't know.

So that being said, I am finally in a position to start putting money back into "Tarja", as she is affectionately becoming known. I think in this upcoming month I will ship the receiver out to be rebarrelled with the Pac Nor barrel. I have a bead on a new stock for her, and the finishing on the metal will depend on which stock I get. If I can track down a nice piece of walnut, then I will go with blueing, if I go sythetic then I might try and find someone who does parkerizing, or maybe go the duracoat route. This year's hunting trip certainly opened my eyes to the benefits of sythetic though. Yes they are ugly as sin, and have no character, but are certainly practical, and that is very important when it gets down to it. Definitely thinking hard about that decision.

Anyways, that's all I have for those of you who are following the progress of this rifle. I'm hoping to have it finished by early summer, and will post pics when I get it all done. Cheers -Cameron

I don't think you will be disappointed with a good synthetic stock in the long run.

Do tell ..........

Well, if you want the details, here is the nitty gritty:

I was browsing the internet looking for walnut stocks for my rifle, not complete custom jobs, but ones that are 98% finished and inletted, and then I can do the finish work myself and all that. The only two I could find who weren't crazy expensive and also were able to ship to Canada were Richard's, and Great American Gunstock Company (GAGC)

So I browsed gagc's website, and found that they had a pre-made stock for my FN mauser rifle, inletted properly and everything, and in fairly decent wood as well. So I put in an order, gave them my credit card info, and emailed it all out.

I waited a few days, no response. I waited another day, and still no response. Then I started to get ansy, thinking maybe this was fraudulant or something, so I emailed back to ask if they got my order. Two days later I get an email back saying "Yes, we got your email". That was it. So, frustrated, I emailed back asking them the status of my order. A WEEK later I get an email back saying that they can't find that particular stock, and to order something else.

So I check out their site again, and can't really find anything, so I email GAGC describing the rifle I am building, and what action the stock needs to fit, etc etc. I get an email back saying to call them, because they have some questions for me. So I call, and the long and short of that conversation was that I should pick a stock from their Mauser MK X stock, as they will fit the Pac Nor barrel contour better.

So I return to the sight, and find a very nice stock for a Mauser MK X, semi-fancy grade wood and ebony foretip. I get the details together, again send my credit card info, and again, didn't get anything back. I had to email once again to get an order confirmation, and again, that took 3ish days to be sent. No shipping details or shipping numbers were sent.

Literally 8 weeks go by, and finally I receieve a box. It looks like Canada post has gone through it, as it was opened and then sealed again; I assume this was done because it was a package that had the word "Gun" on it. Anyways, I get it home, and pull it out, and I am holding literally a piece of #### in my hands. The thing is inletted wrong, the lug holes don't match up, my floorplate won't fit it, it's basically the complete wrong stock. It doesn't have an ebony foretip, and isn't any sort of "fancy grade" wood at all. Like I said, it was an expensive piece of firewood. So I check the order form, and sure enough, all the details are correct for what I ordered, except for price. My order was for a stock that was at around $350ish; I was sent a $89 something-or-other.

So I email GAGC, saying that I have a problem, that my order was screwed up and I was either sent the wrong stock, or something was messed up back at the shop or whatever. I get an email back 4 days later saying "Call us". So I call, no answer. Call, no answer, so I leave a message. Call again later, no answer, leave message. This goes on for a week. Finally I said "screw this noise" and walked away from the mess, very unimpressed with the company.

So that was my experience with the Great American Gunstock Company. This was just my experience with them, maybe others have had better luck, but I certainly will NEVER do business with these guys, and would caution others at doing so as well. Cheers -Cameron

I wouldn't walk away for a long time and in the knowledge someone there has a headache after I was done bugging them.

Sorry to hear about yout troubles. :(

What now?

.

Well I kinda thought that about too, but when it came down to it, my credit card was only charged about $120 after shipping, the exchange rate, etc. I considered it an expensive lesson in not going with your initial gut feelings. If I had been screwed around for $400 it would have been a different story, and fortunately that was not the case.

And on top of that I know that CGN is a small community that often does a lot of business with our Southern neighbours, so GAGC will get theirs I'm sure. Karma being what it is, and all that other universal truth nonsense lol.

Cheers -Cameron

My barreled action arrived today from Bevan King. His rifles has always been good/accurate in the past and I wouldn't expect this rifle to be any different.

Now I got to get into a stock. :)
