Information regarding the CZ858 Tactical Rifles:
"Affected rifles" are banned by Bill C-71 (Legislation)
All CZ858 rifles are banned by May 2020 OIC (Regulation)
Only a CPC Majority Government can unban "Affected rifles", because C-71 is Legislation.
A CPC Minority Government could only cancel OICs. -OIC cancellation would only un-ban "Unaffected rifles".
"Affected rifle" means it's considered to be CA (Converted Automatic) by the RCMP.
"Wide window" of machining = Affected (CA).
"Narrow window" of machining = Unaffected (Semi auto)
Narrow window rifles are only found in reproduction years '05 and '06. (any year later is CA)
Year '06 has a mix of wide and narrow models.
Reproduction year is almost irrelevant, it's the wide window of machining that is the indicator of it's Canadian CA status.
Wide window of machining was preformed to remove original military serial number.
The RCMP conclude that if a military serial number was applied, then it was an assembled, functioning fully-automatic rifle.
This is where Canadian law dictates the CA status. "Once a machine gun, always a machine gun" (or at least converted from a machine gun).
Narrow window rifles never had a military serial number applied, and it's apparent that those receivers were only production stock, never assembled FA rifles.
A reminder that the RCMP's declaration isn't firstly based in current function logic, but rather it's history as a formerly assembled machine gun.
The way the law is written, the RCMP's conclusion is correct and the affected models should not have been imported.
However, due to the oversight, many of us legally own now doubly prohibited, former VZ58 military machine guns, protected under the possession amnesty.
