Just wondering if I wanted to improve faster, where do I go find a trap instructor in greater vancouver area?

Or if someone's willing to volunteer and shoot trap with me every weekend I will gladly take up that offer, too. :shotgun:

try coming out to shoot at Pitt MEadows, lotsa good guys /w good advice
There are lotsa guys at most clubs with advice but whether it's any good or not is another question. I've seen many shooters screwed up by well-meaning advice from guys who had no idea what they were talking about.

Keep up the search for an instructor. Adapt his techniques, take his advice and then stop listening to everyone else. A large part of success at shooting is picking one system and then working on the fundamentals of that system. I know one shooter who has taken instruction from a variety of people and it's completely screwed him up.

If you were in SW Ontario I could give you a couple of names but I'm afraid I can't help in your area.

If you were to e-mail the Ontario Provincial Trap Association, they should be able to direct you to a few instructors. I know that they recently held an Instructors Clinic in Ontario and there are now certified instructors.

Please pay attention to Claybuster's suggestion. The most abundant element in the world is free advice at a gun club, and most of it is worth what you pay for it.

Regards

Cedar Valley info is correct. An easier way to find a trap coach would to check the ATA website - we're all listed there.

As for Ontario Derek, you can contact me directly via the website and we will be happy to assist.

Claybuster is right as always :)

.

This is good and correct advice. As a relatively new trap shooter I started out getting adive from a lot of people and it did me no good at all. Everyone is an expert. I even got help from a guy who would be considered a legitimate instructor, but he screwed me up the most. I eventually started listening to a fella who, although he may not be a legitimate instructor, was a very good international shooter and as it turned out he has helped me more than anyone. He keeps things simple and can watch me shoot and knows what I am doing wrong and how best to fix it.

Good trap instruction is very hard to find, but proclaimed experts are a dime a dozen.

If you haven't read it already, and you are fairly new, I found it useful to read Chris Batha's book "Breaking Clays".
