Good evening all, I have a lot of 485gngas checked cast bullet that I would like to find a load for but in all the books I have including Lyman 50th edition I can’t find anything with the powder I have, H and IMR 4198 and H335.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd ed shows loads with IMR-4198
482 grain col 3.09 49-53 grains, velocity 1830-1940 fps

Lee manual
71-75.5 grains of H335 with a 500 grain jacketed bullet, north of 2050 to 2150 ish fps just so you have an idea. I'd try 70 over a chrono and go from there

I was loading the same bullet in my 458 over 58 grains of H4198, I don’t have my book handy but I got a starting load from they Lee manual and worked up from there.

Depends on how fast you want to drive them. Hodgdons reloading lists these for 500gr jacketed.

Personally I'd try 50gr of h4198 and see how that shoots. The move up to desired fps (I'd assume 1800fps)

If the bullet is 0.002" bigger than the groves I wouldn't worry about leading below 1800 fps. I run my 360gr 43 express cast at 1900fps for without leading. And my 500 Jeffery at 1800

Thanks man I will start there and see what I get velocity wise and accuracy wise!

If you can confirm when you have your book on hand, that would be great, thanks .

And I think 1920fps is good enough that is over 3000ft-lbs of energy! And the recoil is not bad at all!

People don't shoot cast to get max velocity, so that seems like an awesome velocity really. Now you can burn the powder you already have and use load of cast bullets you have.

I need to test those bullets in some media to see how they hold up! Maybe I could use them on moose and bears!

They will probably shoot straight though unless you hit the shoulder and even then they are going to hit hard

They won't have the +2250 fps shock wave so you will be able to eat upto the hole but they will penetrate well I bet

So no mushrooming at all, more like a solid then?
Shoot through the shoulders and I should be good!!

Yes very much like a solid but not as much mushrooming and more so swued to the left or right ( maybe up or down) some times the mushroom pretty good but not reliably like a mono hunting bullet
