If anyone is "humming and hawing" about keeping their scrap brass brass, a 5 gal pail paid $127.40 today.
Be it, it may have taken 15 years to fill the pail....but some of us are cheap

49 lbs @ $2.60/lbs

I took about 75 pounds of scrap brass to a facility. $2 a pound at the time.
The front page on their website was scrap brass.
It was weighed and all I needed was a cheque.
Then bossman showed up and said no brass because of primers blowing up and we can't take it.
I said you keep it and I walked out. Choose your facility smartly.

The current yard I use pays a different rate for cartridge brass over yellow brass. It was .25 a pound cheaper than plain yellow brass. I did have a couple yards refuse the cartridge brass over the " exploding primers" It takes a couple years to fill a bucket. I'm ok with having a pail beside my bench and cull the brass during prep.

They make it sound like a primer is a stick of TNT. We have been selling our range brass to various local area recyclers for years and have never had any of them turn us down due to "exploding primers". Sounds like someone's been watching too much TV.

Brass makes sense to save as long not a lot of work involved. Had a guy saved the tops off vaccine bottles and such. Saved for months and got 60 cents and was so proud of himself.

I collect, save, sort all my brass. Then clean, inspect, anneal anything I may need. Anything that fails I give to a friend to smelt and sell. The King cowboys leave ALL their brass at the range, after a week of qual shoots I've collected 20 + #s of Cdn mil 5.56 brass, and about 12 #s of nickel plate 9mm. Biggest pain is dealing with the crimp, annoying as heck but I've got a quick method.

Been saving mine for yrs in those plastic coffee cans. When I was doing a lot of pistol shooting, there was lots of discarded ammo left behind...I always told the guys...you go ahead, I'll sweep up ! Haven't sold any for quite a while...it was around 2.00 / lb last time I did. I must have 5 or 6 cans under my bench...reminds me now to take mine out to the scrap metal dealer...cash it in for some Crown Royal or 12 GA target ammo ! Either one is a win...lol

This is a great reminder thread...THANKS !!

I had to start using something more substantial, I am fond of using the Czech x39 ammo for use with my SKS because of the stripper clips included. The boxes it comes in is a useful design for storage also, 2 filled with 9mm brass and one with .40 S&W.
