May 22 Postal strike?

Canada Post starting wage is 23.81 per hour but with no guarantee on hours. You may only work 4 hours in a month or you might work a 40 hour week. Eventually I waited 3 years before I was full time and not casual, the one behind me in seniority but hired the same day took 8 years on call.

Whenever you read something about wages and benefits its from the corporation. It focuses on the top wage earners the people who have been working there forever and about ready to retire not the average average postie.

So many problems with Canada Post. The people at the ground level that I've met are great. My local postman and my local post office are doing their jobs. One of the problems is the whole "Crown Corporation" that the government spun off to create an "arms length" Canada Post entity. It doesn't work, these entities never do but it does allow the politicians to meddle for votes while claiming no responsibility. The government's meddling is the biggest problem, by far. There should have been changes years ago to keep CP viable. Gone are the days when CP had a monopoly and CUPW was the most powerful union in the country. Now there is competition, and every strike or failure of CP, drives customers to alternatives. The only things keeping CP going now are their subsidized low rates for letters and packages, and their servicing remote, unprofitable areas. Either admit it is a not-for-profit government service or act like it is a business. Governments prove every day that they can't run a business, they should not be allowed to pretend they are.

That is basically how all of the Canadian government and bureaucracy operates, Incompetence and corruption pays very well in the public sector
The private sector does things , the same way.A company goes bankrupt .The workers lose their pensions and the CEO's get huge bonuses for running the company into the ground.Sad very sad.:(
