Simple question, I pulled a sling swivel off an old Husky stock and I’m going to install it onto a new laminate stock.

Do I need to drill and tap the hole to fit the screw or can I just drill and twist in the swivel in? If I need to drill and tap does anyone know what the thread dimension I should tap the swivel for?

Much appreciated and a big thanks in advance. :)

If it's a wood screw, then you'll want to drill a pilot hole. A bit the diameter of the screw with it's threads removed or slightly larger would be good.

Does it look like a wood screw or a machine screw? Tapping a hole in wood is never a good idea.

It looks like a wood screw, so I guess I'll just drill a pilot hole then.

Right on.

When doing this, I usually thread the screw into the wood then take it out.

I then coat the threads with wax then coat with some 90 second epoxy. Before the epoxy dries, thread back into the stock so the swivel lines up properly. Wipe off excess epoxy with vinegar.
