ORA approved calibres?

I got an ORA membership and wanted to do the short range practice some time but I’ve heard that SKSs are not allowed because there’s a small list of approved calibres. Is there anywhere I can find the list of approved calibres for these ranges?

Military ranges have specific templates for CF service rifles - 5.56 and 7.62.

Best to contact the ORA organizer for the practice shoot you wish to attend. Are you looking at going to Langemark Range at Borden?
You might also send a PM to Ganderite here on CGN. He has been involved with ORA events for many years.

When ranges are templated say 308 template would include 303, 308, 3006, 243 etc. Excludes most magnum.

So any caliber within that template would be legal.

7.62 x 39 is definitely allowed on some Borden ranges. I am not sure on Langemark where they do shortrange practice.

I checked the DCRA rules, which ORA apparently uses, and as long as it's .223 or larger and is not steel core, it should be ok, but check the regs yourself to be sure. You should be able to contact someone in ORA to verify.

It's my understanding that each ORA event booking with Borden has its own calibre clause, based on which range and distance and type of shooting, so best reach out to the specific event organizer rather than try to generalize.
