IPSC Holster Question

if you make nationals introduce yourself and i will buy you a beer or three.

Holy cow! I just got my black badge, and despite Tritium and Quigley's (rather poor) attempts at coaching I don't think I'll be at nationals as anything other than a spectator for a long time.

If you are going to the nationals to watch, you may as well enter and shoot the match.....many of us are no expert but still shoot the big match, you just have to shoot at your own speed... :dancingbanana::shotgun:

If you think the ammo for doing your BB is going to cost you a small fortune them maybe IPSC not for you

Well I'm not actually planning on doing a lot of IPSC matches. I need the course to be holster qualified at my club. There's a range that's restricted to holster qualified people and I'll need it if I want to do any of the club level pistol matches.

if you have an addictive personality like me,..you had better not start attending IPSC matches (Just kidding):p
Since I started in May 2004, I just cannot stop!!>!?. It is almost like IPSC has put an addictive phermone in the targets, and hid subliminal messages in the RU ready timers....LOL;):p
I am guessing 40,000rds in 4 years, and bought and sold numerous items to continue shooting.

Dude, you might start out that way, but don't expect to wind up there.

I started in IPSC using a cheapo uncle mike's generic holster with the strap cut off and some surplus police mag pouches, again with the straps cut off. That gear worked fine for me for the first couple of years. Then I went to a bladetech DOH holster and ghost pouches and have never looked back

My point is that you don't need to spend a fortune to get started.

The equipment retention rule has been removed so you can use whatever hokey holster you want now, so long as it covers the trigger. (5.2.7.4)

The only person at a match than can deem your holster unsafe is the RM, and he can make you 'fix' it, or remove you from the match. (5.2.6)

Bear in mind that dropping a loaded gun is a go-home kind of foul. We had a lot of this the year after the retention rules were eliminated.

As an aside to Maurice, the top Canadian production shooter, Fatty B, told me that he shoots about 30,000 rounds a year. :O

Wanna bet ? ;)

Show up at a match with a $300 speed Holster designed for an STI/SVI...and you managed to slam in your Para...you aint using it (It's not just the cheap holsters that are causing a few problems). Same deal for a duty rig with all the straps cut off. If removing the straps makes the holster unsuitable ...you can't use it. If in doubt...ask an official.

Covering the trigger is just one of the safety requirements. The holster must also secure the firearm...regardless of the now defunct retention test. It's all about safety...

You are correct though...you don't have to spend a fortune...and the Bladetech DOH is a great choice (secure, usable, not expensive)

Then you;ll have more money left over for ammo

If you think of the holster/belt/mag carrier rig as safety equipment rather than a means of carrying your stuff around cheaply then you'll probably be better served. Always buy the best purpose-built equipment you can afford. If you don't like it you have something you can sell rather than something that didn't work, wasn't safe and ended up in the trash.

I shoot about 12,000-15,000 yearly ( I meant over the last 4 years =40,000)....Fatty B shoots standard,...although I have no doubt he could be the top production shooter.

Why? the nationals is just a bigger fancier match with fancier props (i hope.) i have seen BB students shot the nationals as their qualifing match.

There is absoutely no reason why a new shooter cannot shot Nationals. the only three prerequisites is that you are BB qualified, you have the time and you have the money.

and on top of it i have offered to fall off my wallet and buy you beer, so download the application, send some money and book a flight on westjet.

The offer is kindly appreciated. I would need to convince the wife, get the time off work, amend my ATT, and stop looking for excuses.

ATT is simpley a phone call. bring the wife. there is lots to see and do around Lethbridge. there are a few suggestions on the web page. if that doesn't work send me a pm asking what she is interested in and i am sure i cna find something!

When we go we make vacation out of it.
