Im seeking the community wisdom for this. I got a model 12 heavy duck (3 in chamber) that keep failing to eject and sometime extract. Often the hull stay stuck in the ejection or came loose inside the action.

Im wondering if this is a weak ejector issue or a weak extractor that release the shell to soon.

I would also like to know if parts of a standard model 12 will fit in the heavy duck. Beside de barrel is there any other change?

And finally where could I get said part, good ol numerich dosent seem to have any stock. Ive found a site that have some parts call canadabrass but I never heard of them.

Thank you for your help.

Does it fail regardless of the type of shell you use? Some guys have reported that a current run of certain shells have undersized rims that can slip an extractor/ejector.

Ive try it with a bunch of challenger 2 3/4 target load and 3inch for turkey. Both often fail to completly eject.

I've ordered lots of stuff from Canada brass in the past and never had any issues, usually one of my go to places looking for reloading stuff

You could always take it to an older gunsmith who has worked on Model 12's in the past... Both the extractor and the ejector can be 'sharpened' a bit for better performance.

As previously mentioned often newer brands of cheaper ammo have poorly formed rims.

Go to know. They have an ejector. Im just no sure if its gonna fit the heavy duck. Im like 90% convince it will.

Still it might be the extractor.

Remove the barrel and scrub the chamber with a brass barrel brush spinning on a medium speed drill. A good amount of crud will have been imbedded leading to extraction issues.

ok here we go the only difference in a 2 2/3" in reciver and a 3" recover is the ejection port on the 3" is longer other than that components are the same even though the parts numbers are different in the parts book
if you know how to do this disassemble the action remove the right hand extractor and the left hand extractor the left hand one is the one that holds the rim to the bolt face if it is not functioning correctly then the hull slips down off the bolt face also check the ejector to see if the spring is broken or weak
just saying i'm the old gun smith guy i did win warranty work for 20 yrs ish
if you think you need parts contact me
o and i have shot model 12's all my life and i'm 70

I did this on a local guy's Win Model 12 - it has 3" chamber and he was using 3" Win Super-X ammo - but steel shot - I warned him that the steel shot would eventually kill his barrel - full choke - it would burst or crack. However, the chamber looked "smooth" with flashlight - I polished with spinning 0000 steel wool wrapped around a bore brush - spun with electric drill - now chamber looks "shiny, bright". His ejection issues went away - I used some 2 3/4" lead shot target loads to confirm that. He still has to get his head around that steel shot issue, though.

My own Win Model 12 is chambered 2 3/4" full choke - it has only seen the lead shot 2 3/4" target loads since I received it. I did the same polishing in it, although I have never had extraction issues in it.

Remove the RH extractor and remove the burrs from the area you can't see when assembled, clean well while it's apart.

The ejector spring looks a bit weak, use your fingers and increase the arc. It should arc fairly easy, don't use all your muscles. Don't put a sharp bend in the spring.

The edge of the ejector is sharp, look like it broke a while ago. At this point I think im just gonna swap it for a new one. Its most likely my main issue. Might as well do the extractor and I also have carrier spring that I believe is weak. I may be wrong but I dont have another model 12 to compare.

Yeah the extractors seem worn, you could try to file it to a sharper edge to stretch it longer. As for the ejector, yup its too short. Should be slightly longer than the base

I have a parts lot for model 12s on the EE but its missing one extractor
I see your model 12 for sale but not the parts ads.

The ejector on a M12 Heavy Duck 3" has a longer spring to kick the empty 3" shells out. Quite often the ejector has failed and been replaced with a standard M12 2 3/4" ejector. You can just replace the spring with the correct length.

When a shell fails to extract properly from the chamber it can be: 1. dirty chamber requiring cleaning, 2. a chamber ring has been replaced and not properly sized, 3. worn extractors, there's an inner and an outer.

Hope this helps.
