Kerry at the Gunsmith Shoppe (Stoon) does very nice work, but you may be waiting awhile. He's getting up in years, and only fires up his tanks when there is enough work to warrant it.

Cheers

What the hay- those are fighting word, but like Kerry ,I am Not Getting
up in years - Just tired.
And working for an average of $ 3.oo /hr. does not help.

Now here's the next question...Ive heard that you dont actually get very good corrosion protection from a hot blue...nickel plating is far better. Can any of you folks confirm this?

If that's the case...Who does nickel plating in Sask?

I would stay away fron nickel, I have seen lots
of old guns and some not so old with the nickel
flaking. I would just blue it and oil it or you could have
some of the new finishes done, but what is the gun???-
what is value now ?- what will it be worth after you spend
a pile of money on it?- family keepsake- different story.
Collector guns should NEVER be refinished.

Marshall, im in Regina.

Given the make of the gun there is no way i should refinish it....but its beat to hell. Functions ok but looks like sh#t.

The gun was originally blued...made in the 1880's. The barrel is beat to hell and I have to shorten it...in fact it might need replacing its so bad. I'll have to see when it finally arrives.

With the condition its in it wont lose value to reblue it. In fact, its value might do slightly better with a re-finish. My current options are to clean it all up, sand up some pits and dings and polish it or do all of that and have it re-blued. .
