Hi,
I have a Schmidt Rubin 1889 that was rechambered in 30-30. I am keeping this but the stock is some home made thing that cracked lengthwise behind the action.
My question is, I am having trouble finding a new stock for this (I know Numrich sold them but they are out) but would the K31 stock work with a bit of modification?
Intersurplus sells K31 stocks currently.

Thanks!

If you really can't find a replacement, this would be a good opportunity to try your hand at repair. It's not particularly difficult. Some thin, strong glue, and a length of rubber surgical tubing might do the trick depending on the severity of the damage. Post some pics for better advice. If the stock broke due a major bedding failure then a replacement could make sense. If the area behind the tang cracked due to it being fired with the action screws loose, that's a simple fix.

Thank you all for the advice, I did shoot Corwin an email. The home made stock is currently drying from a Gorilla Glue and clamp procedure. I may get lucky from a Switzers auction as they seem to have sold a fair amount of Schmidt Rubin items in the past. Hopefully a cheap 1889 parts rifle will pop up that still has a good stock.

These conversions got a lot of "undeserved" bad publicity because of the chamber inserts.

There was a lot of unfounded "speculation" about those inserts coming out, in a similar manner to those on the US Navy M1 Garands, converted to 7.62x51Nato, which were converted in a similar manner.

These rifles will never reach temperatures in the chamber area, that will be hot enough to cause any issues.

I don't know how those inserts were installed, heat and shrink would indicate the barrel being removed, but maybe not as the locking lugs on these rifles are at the rear of the receiver.

Press fitting them into place would be difficult but doable.
