I plan I doing some mods to my 1911 with ed brown or wilson combat parts such commander hammer/sear, grip safety, grips and allen head grip screws, would it be best to use ed brown or wilson combat components and which parts can be drop in, also will any allen head grip screws work or do the bushings have to be removed. Sorry for all questions but I need expert advise, thanks.

Either Wilson or Ed Brown will be fine, Wilson has a reasonable priced Hammer and Sear (45.50 US for the set), unfortunately there are very few "Drop In" Parts, most will need some manner of fitting.

Order a copy of Brownells 1911 parts catalog, and there are tons of resources on the net on customizing these things, it can get rather addicting, as well as expensive.

Keep in mind that alot of the parts can also be gotten from Armco and Freedom Ventures .

Norc 1911's..........

My advice is shoot it as is & see how it does... I picked up a Norinco compact [commander] NIB last year. Gave it an immediate detail strip to give it a good clean. Reassembled it with an aluminum adjustable trigger I had in the parts box and swapped out the factory black rubber grips for a set of double diamond hardwoods. I installed them with hex-head grips screws [worked fine with the factory bushings].... Anyway, this pistol "shoots" just as is. Seems to like factory Fiocchi 230 gr JHP's, too....

The screws are standard issue.
The grip screw bushings are proprietory. If you change the bushings you will have to re-thread the frame.

I believe that the grip screw are metric so you will need to swap out the bushings, I am sure someone will be along shortly if i'm wrong :)

Don't take out the bushings (unless you have to).

For "drop-in" parts, I've found Brown to be more likely (than Wilson) to be truly drop-in. Perfect fit, perfect finish, and true drop-in.
