Just Had success with Flat Based HOT CORS....
They were 150gr seated Longer...

I planned on 165gr Hot cors, but tried my partners 150gr for her Franchi....

Gives me something to work with..

Also testing Longer 150 SST. And 180 BTSP loads

I have decided this is going to be the best for all the aspects i worry about.
it will help with barrel life! it should stretch the powder can, it will keep price down on projectiles, i wont wear out the trigger sear and being a remington, it will kill everything with 1 shot.

got this one in the .308 winchester !
it makes sense to have 2x308s (mine an partners) in the 30 cal , i sold my left hand Abolt 30-06 to a young keen lad for cheap, we sourced a magazine for it an sold him a fullfield scope for bugger all.... free'd up the space for this Model Seven.

ive been using a 7mm08 for a few years now and rekon the 308 sized case is spot on and proberly preferably a 180gr projie would be optimal - think Elk sized game... but will settle for whatever the gun likes as am confident with placing shots and or refusing shots these days.

my partners franchi is downloaded to 2400fps with 150gr hot cor - and im at 45gr (appx 2600fps) with 'her' bullets but i am confident her gun will accept the 165gr hot cors i have in good quantity... :p :D
i will try a load for the Seven with 165s though soon enough.

the stalk on the deer yesterday was perfect scenerio for this gun- an it performed awesome.
 
Any rifle that performs well enough to require sharp knives is "enough gun" with plenty of accuracy!
Sounds like you're having fun with the Seven!
Adjust the trigger for a clean, crisp pull to your liking (I like 3 lbs on my hunting rifles, as I can still feel even with light gloves on in colder weather) and you may find that your groups may shrink a little more.
 
Just watched your vid on YouTube, wicked nice place you've got there !!
If I were you, I would find or build replacement shooting table, that wobbly thing you're shooting off of is most likely causing your groups to be bigger than what they should be. I've had the same thing happen to me before. It's hard to beat a good sturdy bench that doesn't move when you shoot. 165gr bullets are really the optimum bullet weights for the .308 and the .30-06.

its not light but its not baaaaad---- i played with a screw in the trigger, think its a x mark? almost lost the little fker.... glued it in. leaving it as is lol.
its not heavy but its no franchi trigger..... :p

funny story, one of those knifes is shaaaarp, stropped sharp,,, the other is brand new an its fked..... going to re edge it an strop it too

i used to lay down on a swag - that seemed pretty solid

im hopin a 165gr shoots as good as the 150--- i too think it would be much better suited for the bigger Stags :)
 
initial tests of the 165gr show promise...
min load of 43 gr Varg at 2.800 set two shots right next to one another..like almost toching.

44 blew out to the usual 1.5 range....


is this likely? that the gun or barrel only likes mild loads and has a tight 'node' where 1gr would blow it back out?
im going to re test this when i get new 2208/Varg, as its low right now, an may aswell load what we got with what we know, an develop something with 165 shortly.

1gr difference in powder charge will more times than not, do that. I personally load up in 0.3gr increments. Some nodes are quite large, others not so much. I'd say your node is pretty small. Or it was total coincidence that 43 shot tight, tough to say until you test that load multiple times.

I'd try 42.8, 43.1 and 43.4gr and just see what happens.
 
So today we had 150gr win deer season , an it shot a delivery decent group, 3 shots just over inch an likely me.
Good to know , .but $60 per 20 🫣😌

it is not quite kimberesque but i really am enjoying carrying it around-

last two hunts ive have the kimber, an then more recent the Model 7.......
to me the kimber feels right at home back packing or extended hunts, but the Model Seven is just a grab and go rifle , as it was intended.

ive been ambushing deer at last light coming into cattle paddocks- its been good to focus more on low light moments with both the older VX2 and the Prevail from burris.........

two kills this week, 60m KM84 with the 154gr interlocks--- lung shot, ran 70-100m and stopped sat down and expired.
230m with the .308 Model Seven, 150gr load and a front on slight quatering away , it bucked at the shot an went into the bushes about 60-80 meters and crashed.
using the BDC reticle on the burris was nice an easy -
the previous hunt i was set up in similiar spot an had dialled the VX expecting the long shot...an ended up with a closey.. good not having to change the old 3-9 burris :)

horses for courses though i guess---- love both !
an she loves her Franchi
