I believe your right, I was shooting .224's in my hornet anyway. My understanding is the original hornets were chambered into .22lr barrels, now they are put into standard .224 barrels. I believe I read somewhere that this changed maybe post WW2, but don't quote me.
 
One time I sat down and measured the diameter of a bunch of different brands of .22 Rimfire. I measure from .221 to .224 altho some of the diameter may have been the waxy coating on some brands.
 
Some how you have left out the granddaddy of them all the one the Win model 1890 came out in(.22WRF) the first .22 mag till about 1960(WMN)!

Although mini stingers rival it now in prefomance,it was the hard hitter in it's time! And it is .224!
