Guys, has anyone got a line on these shells? 2.75" or 3". I've looked everywhere, can find 9 pellets, but the inevitable "flyer" convinces me I should be shelving 8 pellet 00 buck.

The flyer observations come from 00 buckshot that stacks in 3s in a shell and without a wad. So you can get a 9, 12 or 15 pellets in a load.

The 8 pellet loads are 000 buckshot that is stacked in pairs of 2 ... and which in general pattern much better. 3 inch 000 normally has 10 pellets.

And flightcontrol buckshot is something different alltogether.... it is not stacked in a pattern but the wads are just filled with the pellets and buffer ...

I have shot and patterned a lot of Flightcontrol loads .... None ever gave me any flyers.

9 Pellet Low Recoil Flightcontrol load at 20 meters .... and from a Cylinder choke ....

?? It's hard to imagine a situation where buckshot should be used where a flyer would be a safety concern, I mean a shotgun firing buckshot is not ever a precision weapon. Where a flyer is a safety concern, a slug should be used, or for that matter a rifle.

See the answer to your questions are all covered off below. I'm not suggesting that I would ever want to harm anyone, I'd like to get the most performance out of my shotguns though. Ensuring that all of the payload goes where it's supposed to makes perfect sense to me. If I can buy 9 pellet, given the choice, why wouldn't I buy 8?

Watch the video.

I have watched those videos many times.

WIth my own personal testing and patterning of different 9 pellet Flightcontrol buckshot loads ... the only conclusion I can come to is that the 9th pellet flyer is a myth when it comes to Flightcontrol buckshot loads.

None of the 9 pellet Flightcontrol loads that I tested did give me "flyers" ....!

Again ... have you patterned your gun with Flightcontrol buckshot?
Again...I'm looking to buy!? Do you know where 8 pellet Flightcontrol can be had? I'm not interested in how 9 pellet performs in your barrel. I'm glad it's working out for you, but that's not the point of this post.

You also require a reminder...start at 5.05 of part 2.

...
Do you know where 8 pellet Flightcontrol can be had? ...

Painkillers, that is my point ... I have never seen it at any of the dealers. I wasn't even aware that Federal offers such a load.

I normally buy 2 to 3 boxes of what is available ... pattern it ... and if I am satisfied ... I buy larger quantities.

And if I still feel that I might be missing out on something .... well then often it is a special order with the premium that goes with it.

WIshing you good luck in finding that 8 pellet Flightcontrol load ...

I am out.

Because the 9th pellet flyer is a myth when it comes to Flightcontrol buckshot!!

Have you patterned 9pellet Flightcontrol buckshot out of your gun?
based on my experiences - 1000 shooters annually, remington 870P 14inch bbl, at a distance of 22 yards, yes it is an issue. we tested winchester low recoil 9 pellet, remington low recoil 8 pellet (which was significantly better than the winchester) and when the 8 pellet FCW LE13300 load came out that did better yet. If there are dynamics of a deadly force confrontation happening, it is very conceivable to have a pellet stray from a target and it was lessened with the 8 pellet FCW load. The unexpected benefit of the FCW load is it will perform like a slug with in 5-7 yards for the most part. Having seen it in real world use, I will ALWAYS chose 8 pellet over 9 pellet if I am going to be held to account for every pellet I send. YMMV
