So who has one and what are your thoughts on them?

I am wanting to get a .40 cal in a 1911 frame. I really do not waant to get a full blown rig but basically just a basic gun so I can build on it as funds permit and customize it to my liking.

That is kind of what I am looking for. I mention the STI as they are appealing to my eye.

Or are there any other suggestions for a 1911 framed pistol that would be worth pursuing for a build?

STI blueing

In another thread about the STI Ranger, some owners reported that the blueing wore off rather readily. Does this apply to the blued Trojan as well?

i have a ranger II .45 its very well made and very accurate, but the finish wasn't quite as good as i thought it could be, machine work was flawless, but finish wasn't anything to brag about, and its got a few spots where its wore off a bit now, from what im not sure, im very careful. but thats ok i plan to hard chrome it sometime down the road. i will never sell this sti

i also have a spartan, parked by armscor, not as appealing, but tougher, and again build quality is quite good. also very accurate.

Was going to by the trojan after shooter one at the club, but not a big fan of the rear Bomar style sight. That is just me though, the gun is fantastic, yes the finish thing is true, but that does not take away from the performance of the gun and you can always have it redone here in Black teflon or something like that. The Sparton is also a great deal, nice gun, good shooter and well priced.

I have a trojan in .45 and I love it. Its an accurate and well made gun. The finish got ruined by a stupid mistake on that part, so I buffed it to a high polish and had it reblued. Its nice and glossy black now. Great gun and it can always be refinished when you get more $$.

I have one in 9mm and one in .45, both shoot well and work well but the blueing isn't much. But then again, I bought them to use them. The 2011's on the other hand have great blueing.
