This, and the rest of your post, apply to the ground-breaking but now somewhat surpassed Labradar V1.A buddy has had a Labrador for years snd liked it well enough until he bought a garmin.
You should be able to connect a USB charger portable power pack to the Garmin, in the same way as we do the big Labradar, when the internal battery fails.Do these small garmin or labradars take aa batteries yet? I don't like plug in devices, i have enough of that crap. The internal battery things will die eventually, then it's bricked forever. The fat labradar is big but future proof.

I totally hear you, been there done that.A buddy has had a Labrador for years snd liked it well enough until he bought a garmin. He basically gave me the lad radar ( we traded but what he wanted for it had little intrinsic value). I used it a few times and gave it back to him and bought Chrony. For my purposes, the chrony is a better choice than the labradar, I donât know if the garmin would suit my purposes or not. Even if it did, for me, I can not justify the cost when the chrony dies what I need it to do and cost practically nothing (think I paid $40 shipped). Before someone asks, the reason that the Labradar wonât work for me is that it doesnât like multiple projectiles and as such, will not track a bullet that was paper patched very well as it sees the bullet AND the paper jacket as the jacket unfurls and throws an error. I suspect, but did not test, that it wonât read a shot column either due to the multiple projectiles. For me, if I canât track PP bullets and/or shot consistently, I have no use for it. Also found the Labrador to be finicky to set up. BTW, even with the recoil trigger, the labradar would still throw an error with PP bullets.
A "tricorder" is a fictional, handheld device from the Star Trek universe known for its multi-functional capabilities
The problem with the lab radar unit if you donât use a power pack to run it is itâs EATS batteries like Cops eat donuts at a Timmyâs !Do these small garmin or labradars take aa batteries yet? I think the difference lies in the fact that a Chrony only âseeâsâ the bullet for about 12-15 inches of travel under the sky screens where things like the labradar tracks the bullet all the way to the target. The chrony, being relatively close to the muzzle wonât likely âseeâ the paper or shotshell wad separate from the bullet/shot as they go through the sky screens so wonât likely pick them up separate from the bullet/shot. OR, a Chrony can be set up a little ways down range where the paper falls away before reaching the chrony. Donât know, just speculating.I totally hear you, been there done that.
But in my experience, optical devices like the chronys (of which I also own one), are also susceptible to errors on shotgun ammo and paper patched bullets because the wad/paper follows the shot/bullet and their shadow on the sensors may trigger inaccurate readings.
That's why I have also kept my Magnetospeed which is impervious to such issues (it triggers only on the bullet's metal) but it does change the point of impact.
I'm looking for a tricoder if anyone has a lead on one![]()
you are right, it depends on the distance from the muzzle.I think the difference lies in the fact that a Chrony only âseeâsâ the bullet for about 12-15 inches of travel under the sky screens where things like the labradar tracks the bullet all the way to the target.
