Dearest rifle marksman, we are back! Service Rifle with the ORA resumes a new normal (ish) season in 2025. As Maritimer is not available, I shall continue as the interim Service Rifle match director by acquiescence.

Registration
June 28 Service Rifle Practice
June 29 Service Rifle Match
July 26 Service Rifle Match
August Service Rifle Match
September National Service Conditions Championship

August match is still kind of TBD. Don't ask me, I put my request for dates in at the start of December. I'm just getting confirmation of the schedule at the same time as the Annual General meeting was being held. It's been a busy couple of weeks, and hasn't left me much time to actually shoot.

June practice date shall be a walk back, and likely movers practice as time allows. Practice is $10 for members. Bring lots of ammo, at least 200 rounds. I'll work out the exact details closer to the date. Spotting scopes and binoculars are an asset. There will NOT be a run-down.

June, July, and August Matches
$50 for members, $90 for guests
0830 Match briefing in the Butts
1500 Range clean up
1600 march out

Service Rifle is a physically and mentally challenging rifle shooting competition. There will be individually indicated sighting shots at 200, 300, and 500 yards. You should bring a rifle that is zero'd and that you have known data for targets at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards. There will be Snap, Rapid, and Moving targets. There will be run-downs. You must carry your rifle and ammunition with you. You should be prepared to leave everything else that you need for the day in a backpack in the target butts. You must bring food and water. Eye and Ear protection are mandatory.

Note the calibre restrictions on the range. Note that hand loads are permissible again if you follow all the rules and file all the appropriate paperwork.

NSCC is being planned for September, to be held at CFB Borden and hosted by the ORA. To this end, expect to shoot parts or all of the NSCC COF as we prepare for Nationals.

As we have trained 50 new Range Safety Officers this year, Diesel and I will not be signing for the ranges at Service Conditions events for the ORA. If there are insufficient volunteers this year, the matches will not take place. We will need Range Safety Officers, Assistant Range Safety Officers, and Butts Officers. I think SP5WAT has kindly volunteered to do most, if not all, of the stats.

Sights, Safety, Prepare to move

Thank you to everyone that attended the Service Rifle Clinic and Match on June 28 and 29. It is very positive to see new people attending Service Rifle matches, as well as returning experienced shooters. Most of us severely miss our AR15s, I am happy to see everyone making the best of manual actions. While service rifle has never had huge attendance while I've been shooting, I will plan to keep running it as long as possible, even with the limited number of shooters. Hopefully everyone will tell their friends, and we can get more people out to try it.
Special thanks to SP5WAT and Gavin for signing for the range, acting as RSOs, FPOs, managing the safety net radio, and SP5WAT for doing scores.
I'm glad that our drafted butts officers were able to keep everything running smoothly both days.
Congratulations to everyone that finished the match Sunday. It seems like we were plagued with ammo issues and a number of shooters withdrew from the match.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all next match

Not terrible considering 2/3rds of my ammo decided to not go bang, and I bailed 1/2 way through...that should be sorted out by the end of today, I expect to do much better next time.

Regarding what we discussed about a future match at another range, I message our mutual friend, he stated it should be possible, waiting to hear back from the executive.

I want to thank all the shooters and match staff for attending ORA Service Rifle July 26
The weather was pretty great, despite being incredibly warm again this weekend. The rain waited until Saturday night after we finished Service Rifle.
Special thanks to themarauder for volunteering to be the Butts Officer all day and Suzanne for helping to run a target. This really helped the SR match run smoothly. Big thanks to my brother from another mother, Dave, for helping sign for the range and call the line so I could shoot.

Congratulations to Bolivar with a Y, for his overall win.
Congratulations to Darryl top 500 deliberate score, and top 500 matches score.

It was pointed out to me that I did not differentiate Service and Manual classes. I think I owe congratulations to Marcus on being the first and only Service class competitor. Marcus also attended the Range Control briefing and is working towards being an ORA RSO.

Thanks,
DINK
