Obscure m14 rifles: TRW, old Norinco

Later Norinco flashhiders were not machined out..yup...I remember ordering recievers from Century Arms in Montreal once upon a time, and building them from US parts ordered from Numrich....I should have kept one...stupid frigging bans..sigh

In Canada without the trip bar and welded selector cap, it isn’t conforming to the RCMP CA designation. They would have to have a reason to approve it without it
I had to install the missing parts on one that I had by a certified gunsmith

I can understand the need to have the welded selector cap installed but them forcing you to install the transfer bar seems mindlessly burocratic.

Read the rules
I waited three years for rcmp lab to make a decision because they had so many various converted automatic’s to deal

In Canada if it is an m14 or m1a it isn’t conforming with the rcmp. This thread is based on the “remember when” fallacy

Whatever happened to those 10 round magazines that were stamped something like “AIA bolt action only” but worked in an m14? They seem to not be available anymore. Only curious if the ruling on them ever got reversed or something. I have a bunch that I have been using in a Mossberg bolt action since the ban but always felt a bit… I don’t know

And to save this thread from getting hijacked by memes of atf/rcmp hats poking over a fence, these are the mags that I’m wondering about

There have been tons of pictures online of m14s being used in Ukraine. No doubt, donated by some generous nato nation who was just looking to clear out old stock (possibly USA or Israel? Or one of the Baltic nations who got them from the us after the fall of the Soviet Union)

The first 2 in the picture look like original us rifles (Quantico Virginia) the last one is a very early norinco. They switched to stamping the side of the receiver in the mid 90’s after that they left the heel of the receiver completely blank.
Estonia transferred 35,000 US manufactured M14 rifles to Ukraine in March 2022.

The US M14 rifles imported into Canada from Israel were likely from the batch sent to Israel in 1973 in response to the Yom Kippur War.

The Norinco M14 Sporter was imported into Canada by Century Arms International after November 1990, likely between mid-1991 and early 1992. That's about the time the faux flash suppressors were attached to the barrels. Just after November 1990, Century Arms "bobbed" the flash suppressors to meet US import regulations. Century Arms had a facility in Montreal from 1990 to about 1993 to receive and prepare the rifles for shipment by truck to Vermont. Of course, some of the Century Arms imported M14 Sporter rifles remained with the wonderful people of Canada. :):giggle:

good to see you still around Lee
sad times up here in Canada since May 2020
I really miss the M14 community that was built up here by Hungry, Skullboy, Oldsmobiler and Girlsgunsandfastbikes .... geez I think it all started around 20 years ago as far as this community goes here on CGN.
Hopefully one day our rifles will be freed from the overreach of the communists running our country
I will never give up mine

ellwood epps could have free hookers and blow and I still wouldn't shop at thier establishment
Liberal Criminal Party cooperators they are.
A lot of that going around with a bunch of the sponsors here though. The way some look as it is they will sell whatever is legal, they don’t want to be involved in the legal/political fight and they need compensation for all their inventory they weren’t able to sell. Not saying it’s right it’s just hard to know who to support anymore

Wes Winkel , the president of the CSSSA and also the proprietor of ellwood epps, cooperated with the liberals on the buy back from the onset. They (the CSSSA , not to be confused with the CSSA) took hundreds of thousands of dollars from Trudeau as part of a deal to help the government design the buyback.
