Hey all - anyone have any experience/insight into these old vintage tip off scope mounts?
I think they date to the 50s or thereabouts?
Specifically, I'm wondering if the upper half of these (the ring section) are interchangeable with ANY model lower, receiver mount.
I'm looking at an older gun that has the receiver mount installed but the upper and scope are MIA
If the upper is generic to the lower piece of any gun design, it would make the elusive search for a complete mount much easier!

The gun in question is a FN1900 (Model 8 Remington)
Below is a pic of the receiver mount - without the top half, the gun is a true bubba - I doubt I'd ever come across the ring section seperatley
Now, that being said, perhaps the upper halves will fit other receiver mounts?? (Point #5 in the Stoeger ad)

I don't know of any other brand that will interchange. Pivot Rings are what you need, make sure they are complete and not missing parts. Smaller diameter scope bells were the norm when these were on the market, large diameter bells may not fit.

Thanks, but I'm not speaking of different brands - just different models of firearms
Wondering if the top half is generic to side and top mounts

My grandfather's Win model 100 has one of those mounts. I just looked at Numrich Gunparts, but all they have is the lower mount, no pivot rings listed.
Might find one at a show or on line auction.

I've had a couple of these mounts. There was a side mount, which you have, and a top mount. I think a top mount will interchange with another top mount, likewise for the side mount. I'm not sure if a top mount will interchange with a side mount.

I didn't like them mounted on a bolt rifle. Working the bolt, my thumb would hit the scope bell, which was enough to knock the mount askew. On a semi or pump, they might be fine.

Theres a shop in Montana that has the complete rig (for a different rifle), at not a bad price - I'd buy the set if I knew the upper would fit on the lower thats currently on the rifle in Q

I don't see why they wouldn't.
It wouldn't make much sense, or cost effective to make a new top mount, when changing the lower for different receivers would be all that was needed.
As long as the one for sale is a side mount as well, I'd go for it if it were me.
