Has anyone heard if recent production Stevens 200 rifles have a new stock with a stiffer fore end? Do newer Stevens 200 rifles have a new magazine design that feeds from the center rather than from alternating sides of the mag?

Thanks!

Not sure about the stock, but the two Stevens 200 rifles I bought early last fall have the centre feed...

Cheers
Jay

Does the center feed work better than the older staggered feed? Is it any more difficult to load the mag?

Loading the centre feed mag is not a problem, just push the rounds down into it and it works. I don't have a staggered model to compare against.

The only thing that my 308 has harvested is 2 yotes. I lent the rifle to a buddy and he fired 3 very quick shots out of the rifle with no issues on feeding or function...

Cheers
Jay

The new Stevens 200 has a center feed magazine and slightly improved stock design (rounded edges under the action).

However, the stock design isn't nearly as stiff as my early production Stevens 200 in 223 (a few years old), as there are crossribs in the forend, but no longitudinal ribs.

Nothing a little epoxy and aluminum arrow shafts can't fix.

223 are still staggered feed, my 7-08 is center. Ordered up a SSS trigger for mine because the factory trigger is crap so we're told but it's no chore to drop it to a clean breaking 2.5 lbs with no over travel.

Stevens 200

I got a stevens 200 in 300mag a year ago and today i got one today in 223rem. There are a few things that i saw right away. The 300mag has a better stock and the barrel and action is brite and smooth. The 223rem is a great little gun but it is if i have to different guns because the stock is lighter gray and not as smooth, The barrel and action is not as smooth. The 223rem ser # is double the 300mags. Just wondering if they were made better when they first came out. The 300mag barrel is high gloss and smooth and the 223rem is grainy but the blueing is nice and dark. Over all i still think that they are a good gun for the money.

if you hurry you can buy a used stevens that has already been painted for you in the EE for only $400.
there are some screaming deals on the EE. that gun costs what, $285 brand new?

I scratched my head when I saw that one too. I think mine cost me $330 delivered incl tax brand new from SIR.

I scratched my head when I saw that one too.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one. Sirmailorder has the unfired and unpainted ;) ones listed at $316, but even if you use the prices he claims to have paid, he's asking too much for a used, run-of-the-mill rifle IMO.

Sounds like I'll be looking for a stock and a trigger once I buy a Stevens. It'll still be less expensive than a Remington 700.

I have 2 Stevens 200's...7MM Mag and 7mm-08....for the money they shoot awesome...My 7mm-08 actually shoots better than the Rem 700 SPS I bought....talk about a cheap stock...the SPS stock can easily be bent by hand....and whats with that ####ty matte finish on the action of the 700 SPS?

Like I said for the money the Stevens is a great shooter...and not everyone can afford the Remington's

Something to keep in mind before you dump money into a Savage or Stevens, at resale, thats all they'll ever be.

so a cheap rifle that shoot well will be worth nothing down the road?
I guess they are just like the cheap 788's remingtom cranked out like bubble gum a few years back.:yingyang:

the resale on a Stevens is not bad at all. you could use it for several years, shoot hundreds of rounds through it, ding it up a bit and still recover all but $100 of your money within minutes on the EE.

i know people who spend more money on cigarrettes in a month than the price of a Stevens with scope and rings.

Any improvement to Steve 200 makes it an accutrigger Savage.
I vouch for shooting Steve just as is, or buying a different gun altogether.
A poor shooter like me shooting sub MOA 5 shot groups with Steve 200 out of the box speaks volumes for this little gun.
