Shot a round of skeet today…………with my 9GA ML. First time shooting skeet with a muzzle loader and pretty sure that was the first time a 9GA was shot on our skeet field (9GA is not overly common). Was an interesting round as nobody there (other than my son) knew anything about muzzle loaders and they were all quite patient while I loaded. The unfortunate part was that I never got to SEE if I hit my bird. Had to rely on others to let me know. It was fun but I wouldn’t do it again unless it was with a squad of ML shooters. The guys I was shooting with didn’t seem to mind waiting while I reloaded but I wouldn’t want to burden the other shooters with those delays if they aren’t shooting black as well. Fun was had by all.

Thats why MLs are not normally used - can't see after firing :0)

That is A reason but don’t think it is THE reason. Would love to shoot a round with a 20ga ML but the one I have (sxs flintlock circa 1790) has a a pretty straight stock and I hit even less with that. Have a 12Ga flint sxs I could try but prefer something smaller. Was about to take out my 20GA smoothbore (A Chambers kit that I had cobbled together for my Dad over 20 years ago) to try on some clays but found I seem to be out of nitro and overshot wads in 20Ga so will have order some. BTW, it’s one thing to shoot at clays and not be able to see through the smoke to see if you connected or not but consider hunting dangerous game with one. I’ve read of guys shooting wild boars with MLers and having to shoot, then jump to the side to see if they hit the boat or is it charging 😳. Not sure what the plan is if it is charging since, unless it is charging from a mile away, you wouldn’t be reloaded in time for a follow-up. Probably why doubles were used for dangerous game and I believe they always had a gun bearer or two backing them up in places like Africa and India.

I'm guessing that you didn't get to shoot at the doubles

I shot the first station doubles but then decided not to make the others in the squad have to wait for me to reload so I didn’t load for doubles after that. Pretty challenging though ehen I #### the first station. Can’t see the second bird until it clears the smoke and by then it was almost passing the high house. There was four of us and I had just enough time while the other three shot their station to load both barrels for my turn. I would like to do it again but only if there is only two of us and the other shooter is fine waiting. Would like do it shooting all the doubles (to be clear I mean shoot AT all the doubles).
