Bush rifle for 250yds

Almost anything in the 308 sized case capacity will do fine.
IMO the rifle the cartridge is in is far more important than the cartridge itself.

One needs to have confidence in their shooting when using a rifle , and a 11 pound gun with a 26 " barrel with a big scope on it is cumbersome to work in the tight stuff although it would be fine at 200 yards, regardless if it is in 7STW or 257 Roberts.
However, a 7 or 8 pound, 22" barreled gun with a 4X scope on it will work very well in close quarters and still be fine out to 300 , in the aforementioned cartridges like the 257Bob, 260 whatevers, the smaller 7's, 308win, etc.
Mine is perfectly set up for exactly that with over 30 kills on it, in 303 Brit.
Furthest white tail was just over 370 yards with a heart shot using a 1.5-4X scope
First pic was 175 yards
Second one was at 12 yards

+1 on both the howa chambered in a Grendel, and the Browning micro x-bolt. That Browning micro x-bolt is a great gun, my old lady has a micro Midas chambered in 270wsm. It's so good at mitigating recoil. I can shoot it all day, and it isn't too much recoil for her, and she's only a buck twenty.

I noticed Howa super lite 308/7mm08 can be had in 16.25” barrels. Don’t think SS is an option.

Mini action SS I’ve only seen in 22” barrels, which seems silly to me.

Depends on where you're hunting. If you're in Ontario you'll need to stay under the .270 (6.8mm) limit for many WMU. That said, 6.5 Creedmoor or 6.5 Grendel will do the job out to 250m and not kill your shoulder if the rifle is light.

There are so many great cartridges that would fit the bill! 338 federal would be a good one!!
308, 7mm08, all the 6.5 of this world lol! 7x57 would be a great cartridge for that purpose… I think it would be my choice in a nice rifle deep blueing, nice walnut stock, open sights and a nice little light 1.5-6 or 2-7 or 2.5-8 scope with a German #1 reticle, that would hard to beat imo!

You running 150 pills or 180?

I like the fellas saying my user name would be a good choice, but to hard find, watched some videos on YouTube and with a 85gr copper bullet gives 34" of penetration in ballistic gel in 243 would pretty sweet

You could go with the modern version, the 6.5cm if you like 6.5.

Nothing wrong with 243win either mind you. My buddy in a wheelchair uses one for all his big game hunting and kills deer and/or bear almost every year.

i have killed many deer with my .243 using Barnes 85gr TSX. And a few bears, and a lot of paper.
Just remember that "penetration" is only a small part of the equation.
Bullet performance is far more important.
The Barnes projectiles I use need to be going at least 2000fps to expand properly.
I'm experimenting with mono frag bullets this fall (Cutting Edge Maximus) in my Grendel (105gr).
Should be a deer hammer and recoil is similar to my 223.
