I went through this a while ago and couldn't find a Canadian source for reasonable quantities. I ended up buying garnet sandblasting media from Princess Auto. From what I could gather it weighs somewhere between play sand and the really fancy stuff, but a 50lb bag was $30 which is WAYYYY cheaper than what I was finding heavy sand for online.

I've heard of people using sandblasting sand. Also crushed recycled glass.
Both are pretty similar to the heavy sand fill that ships in Armageddon Gear bags.

I have a bag with the glass beads from a weighted blanket. It works well for me. I bought the blanket for sale on amazon for $15.

Anywhere that sells sandblast sand. They often call it “white lightning” (silica) or black shot (aluminum oxide). The only advantage over play sand is that it’s cleaner, won’t be dusty from handling. Steel shot from princess auto is really heavy and you could blend it with sandblast sand to get the weight/density that you want

Go to a pet store and get Lizard Reptile Aquarium Sand ! Best there is HEAVY as HELL and packs and packs and packs !

Swimming pool filter sand can be used too

I have used flax seed to fill my shooting bags. It is quite heavy and has worked very well. Keep it dry and i will last a very long time. ( ten years and counting ).

If you are in GTA Ontario, Coach Sammy sells dense heavy sand specifically for shooting bags. He usually carries them in his truck during matches and practice
