Something different. A Canadian M72 Law made in Canada by CCM in 1968

Newton! Says it all. I have a colleague who lives in that corner of paradise. We always joke about the 'last' gunbattle on her street or whether the cops raided someone in the neighbourhood. Other than the cretins, she says it is affordable and her commute is reasonable.
in the 90's , Newton was the wild west and took over that title from Whalley, that held it from the 70's LOL
As a early 20's sumthin kid trying to navigate life we would get pulled over constantly driving thru those areas of the lowermainland.
I finally got out of the delta/surrey rat race in 94 and moved to chillwack and left that nonsense behind.
Back when i bought and owned that M72 , you didn't even need to own a license but Allan did have a big sign that declared no sales of paintball , air guns or knives/hatchets to minors. I was probably 18 when i bought that thing, had it for a few years before it got stolen from my trunk. Didn't realize it was gone till I got home to unpack my paintball guns and gear which were all still in the trunk. He stole it because he didn't even mention it. Just asked why I had all the gear in the trunk and told him i was coming from the tsawassen paintball field to drop off a friend. My mistake for having nothing to hide and popping the trunk for him to have a look. Crazy that something a person could buy and own with any kind of license in 89/90 is now a prohibitted weapon in 2025..... ridiculous.
Considering I made my own "rocket launcher" a short time later out of PVC and pipe made out of tig welded bean cans..... used to launch model rockets out of it on halloween LOL then modified it into a paintball grenade launcher that was used on several licensed paintball fields. Should have patented that sucker as they were availlable as a retail product a few years later, just looked more professional LOL

The Army deactivation standard for fired M72 Launchers was a 1/2" hole drilled through both sides of the aluminum portion of the Firing Tube. If it was good enough for the Army...... then it stands to reason that it ought to be good enough for the Feds. Of course it would probably require a very expensive lawsuit to prove your point in a court of law, so there's that to consider....
No need for a lawsuit. Go to has deemed these prohibited. They were part of the business buyback. $1100 a tube.

So is it established fact that it’s now prohibited to own a fired or deactivated M72?
It seems it is if you go to the RCMP web page that says so, they do not care if it is fired or not - https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-98-462/fulltext.html

If the civilian buyback is similar to the business one, you will get a hell of a return on your $50. purchase.
How many business dealers have been paid money so far?

The way things are looking is that very likely nobody is going to get any money from JT's OIC's.

You will just be a un-convicted criminal if you own one until they find one in your possession, and convicted PDQ especially if not secured to the standard as they insist all prohibs must be.

So, I would not likely be posting on the web that you own one, bought one recently or try to sell it until this huge OIC mess is fixed, if it ever is.

I'm not a fan of the buyback, but I can tell you, many have been paid.

I'm guessing the ones that procrastinated are the ones still waiting. The gov. probably ran out of money, so they have to wait for the next influx of cash.

First comment I know is fact, second is speculation, before the off the rail comments begin.

All I hear both here, the Parliamentary Budget Officer, NFA, Canadian Taxpayers Association, Fraser Institute, some federal conservative MP's, and among some dealers is that none have been paid so far.

The government (RCMP) website claim they have only collected about 12,000 dealers now prohib guns and parts but from all reports still has not paid them any money.

A large portion of the $67.2 million spent so far has gone to the program's administration, according to the Fraser Institute without any money actually going to businesses who have already handed over guns.

Did you see this recent thread here?

So basically deactivated is ok to own.

I doubt any owners here had the intention or means to reload and fire one anyhow.

I chuckled that a sting missile launcher is now prohibited.

Kinda doubting there were any in private hands anyhow.

I guess maybe, so long as it was done to RCMP approved rocket launcher deactivation guidelines by a RCMP approved gunsmith as per their firearm deactivation requirement statement and you can prove such.

Here is a Canadian forces video on the M72 using a Army deactivated one with the multiple .50 sized drill holes through the tube -

RCMP guidelines are not law. You have to follow them to get something registered, but a great many deactivations have been done to other standards, hence why some are c@ck and click, etc.

No judge will throw you in jail if something is reasonably deactivated such that it can’t be re-used or reactivated easily.

They told us in the Army it was as that is what the Vietcong apparently did with discarded US LAW's!

bmsmau0zbjh81.jpg

Apparently they continue to reuse them still as in this above photo! They also say on a Reddit web page that tens of thousands of discarded M72's are still in use and being reloaded by the crafty and frugal Vietnamese Army.
The tube is dogturd simple. The rocket isn't far off. The dangerous part is the fuse and connection between the striker mechanism and the rocket itself. As I recall it is a piece of flammable plasticky explosive. It has to be rugged and cheap.

Did you see this recent thread here?

https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...l-deadline-are-not-receiving-payment.2528354/
Ok, coming from the mouth of a buyback participant (me).

I got paid.

I did a second submission right at the end, waiting for that, thus my theory.

Apparently the FRT is not law either, but judges and the police across Canada quote it in court all the time to their advantage.

I don’t think there is any case law to definitely say what is deactivated, and what is not. Absent a definition, the burden of proof would on the crown to show your former firearm is not reasonably deactivated. There is a presumption of innocence to overcome in such a case.

My bet is the crown would settle out of court as they do not want definitive precedent in this space. Very likely the courts would allow a lower standard than rcmp recommends, if the firearm that prompts the case is truly rendered unusable.
