.303 British - What ammo for hunting?

My uncle served in Korea and when he came back all he ever hunted with is 180 grain bullets in his No4.
He never talked about velocity or ballistic charts when I asked him,"why 180's in the 303".
He said,"more thump", and that was all he said.

RRC is my initals.

Thanks for the replies.....looks like the Winchester PP are the favorites.
I have used them with success in the past. I have also noticed Winchester moved them from CPX 2 to a CPX 3???

Right now I have a box or two of Remington 180 gr Core-Lokts, but on the ballistic charts the Energy is about 200ft/lb below the Winchesters and Federals for some reason???

no Im not, they are two different things, RCR is regs, R Regt C is moe, and its the proper short form for the unit, sometimes some will short it more to RRC, and one of the oldest units in Canada

I stand corrected. I'm not 100% familiar with all the mo'litia units, except those out west.

"...anybody use heavier than 200 gr bullets?..." Hard to come by these days. Nobody but Woodleigh(Australian) is making a 215 grain bullet. They're RN's. Accuracy Plus in Peterborough, Ont(Ph. 705 740 0063. accuracy@pipcom.com) and Corlane Sporting Goods in Dawson Creek, B.C. (Ph. 250 782 2111. corlane@telus.net) carry them.
