In the search of the Ultimate Stevens Favorite No. 21 ''Ladies Model''
introduced in 1911 this is the Model 55 Ideal ''Lady Model'' 1897 to 1907.

Finest line checkering I have seen on a Stevens rifle.

But why would you want a "tilting / swivel" block Favourite instead of a 44 or even better, a 44 1/2 that you can swap barrels on, including to centre-fire cartridges? Was it because the Ideal-based rifles had been discontinued by then?

And, if that is the penultimate Stevens Favorite, what would the Ultimate one be?

The Ultimate Stevens Favorite in the intro. is the No. 21 ""Ladies'' Model (Favorite action) introduced in 1911.
I have seen pictures of 4 rifles , there are around 6 recorded.
NOTE ; ''Ladys'' (1899) is changed to ''Ladies'' (1911) Catalogue #53

Second ; in the name and description ''Ladys'' Model , lighter (5 1/2'), well balanced , small calibres ,

In 1911 the Model 56 ''Ladies was introduced , based on the 044 1/2 action , with the same description
able to handle larger calibres up to 28-30 .

Would there really be that much difference in weight between an Ideal #55 Lady Rifle, which the catalogues state weighs 5 1/4#'s & its replacement, a Favorite #21 Ladies Rifle, with equal diameter & length of barrels of course, given the weight of the fancy wood, butt-plates, sights, &c. on both of them?

The only reference I can find for a #21 is for the short, light #21 Bicycle rifle, which, with the typical thin, short Favorite barrel, weighs 4 1/2#'s. Given a longer, heavier barrel, deluxe perch-belly stock & Stevens tang sight, I can't help but think the weight would be quite similar for both.

PIcked up a 044-1/2 action about 35 yrs ago, built a 218Bee on it. Trigger is a bit stiff, but otherwise, makes for a great little rifle. Put a 24" RKS stainless octagon, varmint weight barrel on it, built my own stock for it. It's smoked more than a few gophers , few yotes now.

Kinda kick my butt for selling mine. I didn't want to drill and tap it, or dovetail it for scope mnts.

Not a rimfire (.38 Spl.), but it's more enjoyable shooting a cartridge that you've loaded yourself, and I can use it on the indoor range.
