Anyone have any thoughts on this gun. I'm looking at a 25-06 lefty. I have read some stuff about the triggers not being great, etc. I have never fired or owned a ruger.

I have a stainless in 308. Mine shoots Great !! and is a solid rifle. The trigger is on the heavy side, but with no creep. The trigger could easily be replaced or worked on to lighten it up, and I am sure on paper my shots would even be better, but since I use mine only for hunting, a heavy trigger is not a problem.

Mine is a 260

Yes the trigger was somewhat sticky/heavy but was easy to tune up. I read and saw the drawings for a home repair on this? site and followed the directions. I have worked on guns for for about 25 years so I felt safe in doing so. Also if I goofed it I knew there would be a replacement available. A gunsmith should be able to clean it up if needed in about 1/2 hour so don't worry about it.
I really enjoy shooting this rifle (first ever Ruger for me) and would buy another.

Ruger 77 MkII Standard

Had one in 6.5x55mm [should've kept it.... :(] and currently have a limited stainless model in 7.62x39mm..... Love 'em both. Would like to find one in .260 some day just to have...................

IMHO the Ruger M77 MKII is the best sub-$1000 gun on the market. you simply cant go wrong with them.
*however* my experience with them is limited to target models and stubby-barreled compacts and frontiers, so i cannot vouch for the accuracy of their standard sporter models.

still, i really like the huge claw extractor, fixed blade ejector, stainless bolt, etc. i have yet to have a remington fail to extract on me but ive had other guns with Remmy-style extractors fail, so the mauser style extractor does instill a lot of confidence. if youre up in the bush miles from anywhere the last thing you want is an extraction failure or broken extractor. i dont ever see myself in some crazed situation that many CRF-obsessed nuts envision where youre rolling on your back and firing at a charging rhino or grizzly and NEED CRF, but the fact that its there is again... reassuring.

everything is just so well designed on them. the big complaint people have is the heavy trigger, which i guess ive lucked out with - all of mine have crisp light triggers. one was slightly heavier than the rest so i installed a $3 wolf replacement trigger spring and that lightened it up a touch, and its acceptable now.
the new LC6 triggers are great, IMO. again your mileage may vary, some people complain about them. either way an aftermarket drop in trigger can be had for $75-100 so its not a big deal.

ruger rings are also excellent and an often overlooked value of ruger rifles.

M77mii

I've been using a LH M77MII 25-06 for a couple of years. Great, accurate rifle. The trigger did get replaced with an aftermarket as it was pretty heavy. Easy to do yourself though. The Rugers are my favorite current NA LH production gun, at least till the M70 is made in LH again.

I've got a .223. instainless with tupper ware " all-weather" IIRC
Love the bases that come with it.
Replaced trigger assemblywith a Timney in about twenty minutes.
Now the pull is about 3 lbs and crisp

I am beginning to feel the same way. Used to be any of my boltguns were Remmies, but I think Rugers really offer the better value as hunting rifles Remington seems to be over priing their guns lately, and their more reasonable priced guns feel cheap in comparison. my .02c

My first leftie was a 77mk II stainless 30-06 and now that I have been shooting it for a couple of years, the action is very smooth. Had trigger work done by Bits of Pieces and down to 3oz right on. Solid action no nonsense. I bought it because everybody I asked said "get a Ruger". They are a good looking rifle and nice to shoot. Accuracy was never in question and it likes anything I feed it. The lam stock in pretty easy to look at and gets some looks at the range (gray/black). Heavy (probably the stock) but thats ok for an '06. Nice of them to include rings too.

I'm on my second Ruger M77 MKII first one I sold because I didn't have a use for the caliber and the second one is going to be one of my many go to rifles for this deer season. I love these rifles would recommend them to anyone they shoot great and have great solid actions.
