correct-enjoy !I dropped a 3'' chambered rifled barrel in a standard 2 3/4'' Wingmaster ...... Fit like a glove ....... I don't dare shoot 3''s ........ Am I right ? Is the receiver strong enough ? Should I stick with 2 3/4''s ?
Thanks !!!
absolutely correctThe chamber is in the barrel, as you know. So, can you shoot 3" shells out of it? Yes.
Is the receiver strong enough to shoot 3" shells, as it is designed for 2.75" shells? Yes. The receivers are the same; almost. The port is the same size, however the ejector is set back farther on receivers designed for 3" or 3.5" shells. You will most likely (98%) not have any issue extracting and ejecting fired 3" shells from the 2.75" receiver, but that 2% may rear its ugly head. If so, more than likely on crimped shells rather than the shorter rolled ones.
Either way, a failure isn't catastrophic or dangerous, it would at worst only be a failure in efficacy of clearing a spent shell. Have at it and report back.
That's because all the barrels have the same mating mechanisms in the receiver.
ALL modern 870s are the same,
"mating mechanism in the receiver"Thus is unfortunately not true any more.
There are new remington home defense models that feature a longer 6 round magazine tube rather than the standard 4 round magazine and the barrel lug is located in a different position on the barrel limiting its use to that particular configuration.
Some say it will eventually break the ejector, I'm not convinced of that though. It may eventually break, but likely would have with 2.75" shells. the extra 1/4 inch most probably has nothing to do with e breakage.I did the same, a 3inch barrel on a 2.75 wingmaster, it fired 3in shells fine, but struggled to eject the fired casings.
